Best way to remove 325i engine out the car . Out the top with engine crane or drop it out the bottom ?

IT's tight but can be done going out the top. Best to elevate the rear of the car on axle stands, disconnect the prop-shaft and lift it with the box in one go.
BMW and Opel, both RWD, both german, both good fun

Easiest is downwards with subframe, suspension and steering rack so you move it easier once it's out.Silverfang wrote:IT's tight but can be done going out the top. Best to elevate the rear of the car on axle stands, disconnect the prop-shaft and lift it with the box in one go.
I'd recommend this for M20s with switchable auto boxes as they are longer and tighter to squeeze out of the engine bay without clattering off the front slam panel.
Manuals or 4 pots, take them out upwards. Keep the 4 pot on the hoist so it's easier to put it on a trailer and weigh it in for scrap.

it is complicated getting the 2.5 back in from the top, you would need a balancing thing to shift the weight over,
