I read this today. This is an article in BMW Car Club GB's Straight Six magazine about the BMW E46 M3 :-)

sounds like sales speel to me. i am very suspicious of the £1000 a year to run them claim and try getting BMW to fix the floor plan on anything past ten years old (Most of these by now). these magazines are very guilty of making people think BMW's are cheap to run when even the average models aren't in my experience.

£1000 to run a year does not seem unreasonable when u consider the costs of
BMW Inspection II Service £899 via M Value Line Service Programme at BMW Dealers
Brakes discs and brake pads all round is about £1k
Tyres all round is about £1k
BMW Oil Service is about £100 and something
Road tax
Insurance

All adds up. These have to be looked after properly to get the best from them. If u are a competent DIY mechanic then you can save money. Also I would be wary which independent garages u take something like M3 too as they may not check valve clearances, or go thrashing your car behind your back etc.


Average out the costs over many years I think £1k is about right I think. Also some things like weeping diffs will cost to fix. Thankfully I have a BMW Insured Warranty (Comprehensive) :-)

Saw a mates m3 going sideways, which was very unusual as be drives like a poof. Turns out it was in for a service at the local BMW dealership :D

You really must pen down all these tales I want to know them.
Are they "tales" or the real deal ?

Btw did "the angry one" as u refer to did he tell you he drove £50k M3 CSL with under 10k mileage and did the BMW Inspection II Service. The engine was so clean you could eat your breakfast of that. Also he is now a SMGII convert.

I do go out but I don't sit and watch whether BMW Techs thrash their clients motors or not :-) ?

Soni recently went on a BMW car club shindig to Wales. After a hard day polishing they all got together around an open fire and played 'soggy biscuit' with an E46 CSL owners handbook :)

The winner got to lick it clean and keep it safe till next time.

Soni tells me it is a riveting, albeit sticky read :)

I think year on year average is not far off the mark. My M5 cost a couple of hundred pounds for the first 18 months ( oil service and brake fluid) but just had various "small" items done with inspection II which cost around £1500 plus 2 new tyres at £500.

Works out about £2200 for 2 years and it will be a while before another Inspection II.

I don't know what u have against the Car Club Peter u should join was a fun trip.
And u could tell us some proper old school wheel dealer type / technician tales :-)
U own a lot of BMWs u would be ripe to a member
Even the angry one is a member now and had seen the light
Unless u would rather join BMW FBOC (Facebook Owners Club) full of bruvs, Chavez and more chavs. Who like nothing more than tinting the lights and windows and lowering say an immaculate looking 2006 56 Plate 330Ci Convertible
Maybe that is more your cup of tea
Or maybe car club is full of old foggies

The costs maintenance I have spent so far

2013:
£1400

2012:
£1000 about that not added up the receipts
Road tax 475 or whatever bracket is in
BMW Warranty is about £1500 per year

Ignoring insurance, MOT, fuel

I wasn't trying to imply anything. I thought it was easy enough to understand that I saw a friends car getting a pasting when it was in for a service while I was out on a drive but clearly you need it breaking down a bit further.

But for your simple mind poppet, no I was camped outside the dealership awaiting for a fleeting glance of a CSL in my ///M branded apparel furiously masturbating into a collection of BMWCC/rare dealer brochures with a bunch of other BMWCC peado types when I spied my friends m3 being booted, happy now? :D
