A good wash for the MOT man in the morning. Given her another run out and its covered 40kms now and the exhaust tips are no longer oily so I think its nearly all burnt off now.

Can't wait to use her in the sunshine.

Had the dent man out this week, must taken out 10 dings along the doors and wings.

Running well we've put a good 300 miles on it now, I can't wait to re check the manifold nuts after 2000 kms

Shes going like the clappers after a new lambda sensor, brought the mpg up to the 20 mark and improved torque, acceleration. I've been having fun with getting the air conditioning working but that's for another post as its been a bit of a mission

Indeed it was, so a little update. Air con is finally working, i'd like to say it was gassed up after its new conendor and dryer was fitted and it gets all chilly in there off the bat.

Not so,



Powelly kindly took it to work, so here it is being gassed up at a very famous research institute that I can't really name due to the amount of gas its used!

So an e34 uses/ needs 1700 grams of R134a to fill the system. After this picture was taken it dumped it all out!

My bad as I hadn't tightened the smaller connection to the condenser enough, so an engine bay of dye everywhere too! This was tightened up and then gassed up again. Engine bay steam cleaned so even better in there now! Shes now gas tight but still no joy.



Then get a text a few days later, "machine used to gas the B10 is faulty its over filling systems!" Ah, so if there is too much gas in there the system won't work. So back it went the next day to sort this.






I'd like to say it was over filled by 300 grams but it wasn't try it had 2300 grams in it!! Well over done, at least its well gas tight!

So correct amount in, still no joy hmmmmm

Time to test some things, so 12 volts was given direct to the compressor just to see if it kicked in or did anything. Joy! it fired straight up and ice cold air out the vents a few seconds later. Great, it does work but somewhere between the switch being pressed and the compressor kicking something was awry.

Compressor relay was tested with a 9 volt battery and found to be ok clicking nicely and continuity when powered up on the right terminals.





This left the pressure switch, which won't engage the system if the gas level is too high or low......... simple test lets bridge it out. Hey presto working a/c as soon as button is pressed in cabin! So fairly confident the fault was found I ordered a new switch.







I bought it from Euros as its a generic e34 item! still £58 though. White plug is for the electric fan, black on the pressure. So to fit this the system has to be drained! Off it went again for the 3rd time! And voila a working air con system at last!

And a fine system it is too, way better than e36 air con I think

So that's the last mechanical fault sorted from originally buying the car, whether the over gas the second time killed the pressure switch I don't know, but thanks to Steve for taking the car and tracing the fault as A/C isn't my forte. He did enjoy driving the missle to work 3 times though! Mostly motorway, and that's it natural hunting ground on the m-way where it really "shines"



Next up is some paint work which should be next week to get the beast looking mint on the outside. We've had the dent man out to take about 10 dings out the doors and wings. Shes looking bullet straight but a little chipped and a rusty bootlid need to be sorted along with some scrapes and scuffs from daily London use in the past 10 years.

This is a replacement black bootlid from a deceased B10! a non turbo car though, I've had to drill the holes where the spoiler fits which is in the boot which was a bit fun/sweaty moments. It lines up pretty well, save the body shop playing with it.

Its going to a bmw dealer paint shop, hopefully my source* will take some in progress pictures!

The E34 M5 LE is a rare beast and a looker in an old school way
Saw a 2002 E39 M5 in Silver by Richmond Hill.
I nearly creamed by pants and the pure beauty and being in its majestic presence.

The dents how much did he charge ?

that's not an LE at Ace its just a normal 6 speed car, theres no squeeks in my e34 pony. Are you pissed?

Barry says some of these dent people drill holes and some don't but have to remove some interior trim sometimes to gain access to remove dents

I had some dents removed there weren't many
But he did have to remove some trim to gain access and now I got a squeak on the plastic thing by the door I forget what is called next to M3 door card. This guy charged £75 per panel and I only needed two panels. He is an independent guy with own website etc and not part of franchise.

Presumably independent setup as dent man is harder than part of franchise so maybe more likely to be better skilled as independent setup ?

Depending where the dent is dictates what they have to do to access the back of it. In some extreme cases they do have to remove trim and drill access holes in inner skins.
