So I have been thinking as we do not really have a summer over here should I keep or remove the AC and save myself messing with it to get it working?

What would you do??

Isn't an AC unit heavy and does it not use up more fuel?

Not sure on how much weight difference there is, but I guess it would be sapping power and fuel

Can it be repaired? All your switches compressor loom and other guff would sell well here for some tinker to retro fit ac i reckon,or if the major parts are beyond repair the ancillaries would fetch some dosh.

If you're going to remove it, you'll need to seal up all the pipes as soon as they're disconnected. If they're in good condition they're worth loads - 24 hours later, they're scrap due to the moisture inside causing rust.

So if you're going to dismantle it, do it properly and you can make some serious cash. Is it R12 or R134a?

scrap it out ,it's heavy and steals fuel .

buy a heated front seat retro fit kit instead, far more appropriate in this climate .

How do I determine which model it is?

I agree with the heated seats option.

Simplest way to check is to look at the compressor (bolted to the engine block below the exhaust manifold) or to check the part number of the receiver/drier (the black round filter thing that bolts into the right-hand inner wing behind the headlights).

R12 is illegal in the EU so it won't be worth as much, but a conversion kit to R134a is available from BMW.
