Firstly are the standard brake disks on an e30 vented?

Secondly what is the code on a limited slip disk on an e30, a friend of mine insists that my car has an LSD, I drive it and insidt that it hasn't.

Also what is the lowest ratio LSD that you can get for an e30 (without ordering specially)

Finally how much will it cost to get a garage (or just a person that knows what they are doing) to fit a set of coilovers. I live in london. Does anybody have any recommendation on kit aswell? I have just fitted new wheels (replaced the horrible buckled aftermarkets) and now the nose looks like it's scared of the road. I only use the car on the road it is a 1991 318i cab so theres no need for the suspension to be too advanced.

Thanks alot

Only on the 51mm Strut type cars I believe, i.e. 325i, 318is.

it will depend on whether they are the type that need to be welded to the strut or are direct replacement for the inserts.

Fitting a set of good quality springs and dampers will get your car lower and will handle perfectly well. Eibach pro kit, H + R Cup kits come recommened for the springs, and matched to Blistein B4, B6, B8 or Boge Turbo dampers.

Spings and dampers are easily done with a jack, stands and some basic tools. If you know what your doing the fronts can be done in approx 2 hours and the rears in an hour.

Lots of info in the wiki as well.

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... akes#Discs
http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/index.php/Suspension

P.S. Getting a garage to do the work very few people can tell you a price as it will all depend on the garages hourly rate.

To check if your has an LSD, jack the rear end of the car up, spin one rear wheel, if the other wheel spins the opposite way, it's an LSD, if they spin the same way it's an open diff. I'd be very surprised if a 318i has an LSD though, unless it's been retro fitted

this ^^^

your car being a cab it should already have the 51mm struts fitted
the discs are easy to change too.

South east. I live in beckenham.... And it may be a turd but it's not rusty anymore! Its just spend two months in the bodyshop!
The car before I bought it has had a few bits retrofitted. It has vented disks front and back. Battery moved to the rear ect.... And it was probably the person who did this that made the engine need rebuilding!

think you"ll find its the other way around .
if turning one wheel and the other goes in the same direction =lsd,
if it spins opposite = open diff.

Plus it only really confirms it if the car is in gear when you spin it. Otherwise you may end up spinning the whole carrier which will spin the whole lot one way.

Jack one side up with the other wheel on the ground, car out of gear and turn the wheel that's in the air. If it doesn't turn/hard to turn it's a slipper.

There are figures available somewhere to check if your LSD is within factory specs with a torque wrench. Most aren't any more.

All factory cabbies have vented front discs.
Solid front discs only on 316/316i saloon, these could include a Baur conversion.

318i cabbie with manual 'box should have a small case 4:27 diff,I think, cannot recall hearing about an LSD in this ratio.

318iS had LSD as option,on a 4:1 ratio.
