DON'T EVER USE BITUMEN TYPE UNDERSEALS ON A BMW!!!!!!!!! This stuff is intended to protect bridge dodging scrap of 'other makes' from the prying eyes of MOT testers for a couple more years. After that time, it lifts, traps moisture behind it, and reduces the vehicle in question to orange dust in a very short time.
The underside of BMWs should be protected with polyurethane sealer/ stone chip/ cavity wax as appropriate to the area in question.

Brian any particular products you would recommend? I too could do with touching up some of the soft rubbery underseal on my can where it has started to come away from having the car up on jacks and stands.Brianmoooore wrote:DON'T EVER USE BITUMEN TYPE UNDERSEALS ON A BMW!!!!!!!!! really if its comming away, you should strip areas right back and have a good rust hunt, thats where it hides..

A two pack polyurethane stuff made by 3M, that needs its own special spray gun is the nearest thing I know of to the original, but for small touch ups, brush on polyurethane seam sealer will do the job. I've even used polyurethane sealant, such as Tigerseal in an emergency, blending and shaping it in with a brush and white spirit.

I can't even begin to imagine the mess that made, even with the thinners.Brianmoooore wrote:I've even used polyurethane sealant, such as Tigerseal in an emergency, blending and shaping it in with a brush and white spirit.

Ive just used the dinitrol 4941 black chassis wax, easy to apply with a schultz gun and compressor, seems really good and hardwearing but suppose time will tell..

No mess at all! Just blend it in with a small brush and/or spatula wetted with white spirit, before the stuff starts to cure.capnmchl wrote:I can't even begin to imagine the mess that made, even with the thinners.Brianmoooore wrote:I've even used polyurethane sealant, such as Tigerseal in an emergency, blending and shaping it in with a brush and white spirit.

Fair enough. Most of my experiences with tiger seal have usually left me looking like a I have the plague for a week.

3m 08800 sachets are what you want (Brian mentions them above). XWorks used it on his epic M3 resto and I have used on my touring project with great results.
It comes out grey but you could paint it beiege if you wanted it to look original I guess...
This is what it looks like when applied:

how does that work then? i see they sell a gun, but mention no gun cleaning
does the metal sachet contain a nozzle you connect to the gun?
also, the sachets look pretty small at 250ml, how many would you need to coat something like an e30 floor pan?

The sachets have nozzles, which clip on to the gun. If you are mean with coating thickness 1 sachet will just cover an arch, I manage around 2/3rds of an arch on average. It does get very expensive when you start doing the whole car!

Winx, that looks great. And thanks Brian for responding. The two bits I have are literally a couple of inches long on the long rail like bits on the front of the floor pan. Basically been ham fisted with the jack and the fact the jack pad is not flat has started to scrape away the underseal.
