If you're after a thread of one then it might be worth searching for a zoned called fuzzy. I'm sure he had a cosworth powered 30

Or he got banged up for running over bikers

i have been told the ball park cost of a cossie conversion and im not up for that,,, if i wanted to spen that much id go with my original plan of s54...
i want something that doesnt cost the earth, but can return good bhp via boost....
been looking into 18det or sr20det conversions,, im waiting for someone to get back to me with a rough cost analysis, rough guide on parts needed, and if engine mounts and plug and play harness adapters are available to buy made
you may be onto something there tho Tony

He pops in every now and then, but the YB touring is no more.Rosc0PColtrane wrote:Is fuzzy still about?? What happened to the old fruit?
lol at cheap bhp via boost though. Strap a snail to your m52 would be relatively inexpensive

m52 setup has been sold Ross, and its not much to lol at really is it..... by cheap via boost i dont mean 50pence mate. but when you consider the average s54 conversion hitting 5 plus grand im more than sure an sr20det conversion can be done for a lot less than that

What's in it right now or just a rolling chassis?
I would be looking at an m50 with a turbo. Look for a thread by Gunni about what power the standard management/headgasket can handle. Would be a cheap way to realise 350+ hp

Yes, they are the 6 cylinder mate. Good engine just a shame they're in a rot box of a shell.

it is a rolling shell right about now mate, i spent a few hours stripping the interior out today, and investigating the fitting of a wand for obvious use on auto test trialsWhat's in it right now or just a rolling chassis?

from what ive read thus far mate you are right there, that skyline lump, although powerfull would be as bad as having an m50 upfrontThe SR is a very capable engine!

Depends how you do it. Cheap/homemade manifold, cheap turbo, standard management and a home made exhaust isn't going to cost the earth and I think they can run around 350ish on standard management.

around 300-350 is what im aiming for to be honest i reckon that should be more than enough in a stripped e30 shell

I would avoid sr20det ,its not a good motor its ok but if you going for a swap its not what i would swap to , i can understand the 4 banger idea but is there that much of a difference if the suspention set up is right and how much weigh difference is there .

And why would you avoid the sr20 motor? Far better than an rb25.sunnysr wrote:I would avoid sr20det ,its not a good motor its ok but if you going for a swap its not what i would swap to , i can understand the 4 banger idea but is there that much of a difference if the suspention set up is right and how much weigh difference is there .

when compared to the weight of an m20 lots.!and how much weigh difference is there
the other advantage from the research ive done so far is the engine is lighter but the gearbox's are heavier..... this will help shift the weight distrabution toward the centre of the car, so more balanced

1000bhp+ can be had out of an sr20.
What other engine will make an easy 350bhp without opening it up, at the same weight of an sr.

Very true. I was a bit reluctant to say 400 as although there are many out there on 400, I don't know for how long!maxfield wrote:I've seen a couple of SRs running around 400hp on standard internalse30-dk wrote:350 on standard internals??
I've been in lots of sr engined cars, including an sre30, on track and they're awesome. 2l aluminium block 4 pot engine and they sit in a decent position in the e30. Do some research, lots of sr e30s around

I've seen a few at 400hp and a 2 melted pistons. So guess that's around the limit
Never been in an SR E30. But have been in a couple of M50 turboed cars and a RB25 E30. The skyline was absolutely ballastic.
You thought about an LS V8 engine? Alloy block and they're pretty cheap.

Looking at this at the moment, not straightforward by any means and not as strong as the Saab 4 pots. I've read that 280bhp is the reliable limit of the 5 pot, although others say 300 has been fine on their road cars.eko wrote:Do a 5 pot Volvo converion Ant.

The 5 pot isn't much shorter than an M50 either, it's just the T6 lump with a cylinder chopped off...
Everyone I speak to says go for the Volvo T6 lump, but they are huge for a 6 pot, although mega strong standard internals
