Hello I have the carpets out... any tips for products, Utensils and proceedure when it comes to cleaning the bugger.

Drip dry or find someway to accelerate the drying? (shrinkage is my worry there).

As ever

Cheers in advance :)

Pressure washer is the best way to clean the carpet, helped with detergent and a stiff brush.
It won't shrink or deform in any way, what ever you do to it.
Best way I've found to dry them is to hang them up diagonally on edge. Most of the water will quickly drain to the lowest corner, where you can repeatedly squeeze it out.

Its with Boyd the now for Welding.

There was a patch under the pedals that was letting in water. Despite being told it was related to fluid from a replaced part... I cant mind which.

It turned out a previous owner... I think THE previous owner taped up a hole in the boot and I mean taped, then resprayed it. Ive always felt uncomfortable taking a screwdriver to a car I dont own but never again will I buy one I havent poked!

Lol

+1 on the pressure washer. Hang it vertically against a wall or something. AG Interior shampoo sprayed on, brushed in to loosen the grime, pressure wash off, repeat until mostly clean water comes off it. (Expect that to take a while..)

If you can, run a wet n dry vacum over it. Helps aid the drying procedure and sucks up ingrained dirt too.

Would the pressure wash method be better than getting a mobile Valerie type person to do a proper clean on the carpets and seats whilst out ? Was thinking of getting someone to do the lot and boot carpets too

All the more reason to do it! You'll be amazed how much of that 'used car smell' comes from the carpets.

(P.S. Not calling your car a smelly turd or anything! :D )

The only E30 carpet that I've had disintegrate, is one in a touring that had literally been under 2 - 3 inches of water for over two years. A damaged rear hatch had been left ajar, allowing water in to fill whatever it could. Wheel well and boot pockets filled to the top, and the floor pan up to the top of the panels sealing the inside of the sills.
Was an interesting 100 mile drive home with waves lapping around my feet, and a deluge from the back every time the brakes were used.
Carpet and seats were scrap, but the metal of the boot and floor pan were immaculate.

Sounds like an interesting drive home :snigger: but mine couldn't be that bad! 8O

What kept the floor from rusting!? I would have imagined it would have caused serious rot!

but it was rather brittle and ripped very easily when taking it out and I did the job right.. took out the heater matrix! :x seemed to rip under its own weight!

Is the aqua touring still alive?

I brushed in some TFR after the first jet wash, then jetwashed again until the water running out of it was clear. Hung up on a ladder then left to drip dry.

I favour using the car with the carpet out, or at least leave it sitting out in the rain with the carpet out to make sure there are no leaks, as they can be hard to spot under a thick foam backed carpet with overmats.

For my carpet I used a couple of cans of that foam cleaner vanish. Then scrub scrub scrub and wash off. My carpet came up like new and I mean absolutely spotless and perfect.

Beware using vanish on your seats/door cards, houndstooth will run the darker colour!

At least by deleting the 'jacking points' the floors won't go rusty............

PS has anybody taken a screwdriver to the rear inner arches yet ?

Jesus that's grim,
sadly experience tells me that once it's got severe rot in those lower area's there's little hope of fixing the rest without throwing a LOT of money at it :(

cut your losses and frag it... after all it's just a 318

seriously, it just isn't economically viable

Yes. Pete.

Ive had a quote of a couple of hundred to sort it so I dont see the big deal.

Why is everyone so keen to rip cars to bits.

Whats is worth in bits?

Aah, a Diddler special. Nice!

I wouldn't spent 200 pence on this thing. Just tidy it up enough for an MOT and flog the POS when it's got 2 months left.
