hmmm....i was not planning on making the whole speedo face, but for 980 euros, maybe i should!!

the obvious differences are that that one is in KM and yours in miles, but your numbers seem to be smaller at the top than the sides and his doesn't. also the size of the hartge logo is diffferent.

i'm wondering if his is genuine as the edges where the odometer reading shows seem to be rolled/curved???

i was planning to make just the hartge logo as a transfer to go on a regular clock, but it seems that it will not work due to the different speed limit required and the fact that there is text on the non harge one in the way.

hi mate!

about those dials...

i think i should be able to produce a plastic label that would sit on top of an original face...this would be a seamless solution and can be custmised to miles/KM or whatever......might even be a useful thing for those with engine conversions?

only 2 issues i can think of

1) cutting the holes out
2) matching the black colour (sounds wierd, but in printing black isn't always black)

if you have (or anyone has?!?) an old speedo face knocking around that they dont want, perhaps they can send it to me in the interests of science! winkeye

if you were to go down that route i take it they would fit in the same manner as the old lockwood white dials? there could be a few folk out there interested in the hartge, alpina, ac dials winkeye winkeye

i have done some acschnitzer ones that work nicely on a normal speedo....it just covers the KPH. it is actually a small B&W sticker....

Image

i meant to work on hartge ones, but for some reason didn't get there. again, i think a B&W stickers is best. i think e30topless actually sent me the mph dial you see in my pic :o:

sorry about the crappy phone pic....

i have designed it and prined on my home computer just to get an idea of size etc. when printed by my printers, the quality will be excellent with sharp, straight lines etc like the ACS one

there does need to be a small margin of black around the sticker as a "bleed", but it is the same with the ACS one and when installed will be barely noticeable.

Image

so who wants one?

£4 each

Hi Pukar!

That is some good work there!

I have a question regarding the "bleed" to make it less noticeable are you able to use material which is less thick?

Let me know your thoughts....

the vinyl is already thinner than paper so not really. the ones i have for the alpina logo are actually a transfer like "lettraset" which is super thin. the problem with the hartge logo is that is has to cover the KPH bit so cannot do a transfer with the white bits only, we need to have the black there.

rememebr that the one i have shown looks pants becuase it is printed on my brother inkjet printer onto paper. the actual decal with be printed using the best quality solvent inks on a machine costing approx £50k!! the black will be much blacker and a good match to the clock face (take a look at the black bits on the ACS one) the one i showed was just there for e to get the size right.

hope that helps 8)

No. .. just the hartge logo at present. ... but if someone has an actual hartge one they can scan in to a pc then I can reproduce it. Or second best would be to go by the photo. .. is there a demand for this?

Probably not, but for me there is :)
the only thing with just getting a "dial face" that reads to 180, is the actual speedo/speed would be off.

thats why i was asking if the 180 dial, in Steve's picture was part of an actual correct reading speedo cluster :)

Mine was out by 5mph at 180 on the calibrator.

These harge MPH speedos have a custom modification to the PCB which involves soldering a chip and dialing in the correct compensation factor. Every speedo that was converted was recallibrated perfectly to have the smallest run out error.

That's what makes them so special, only the ten genuine a ones actually show the correct speed!

I would be looking for offers around the £1000 mark, this is how much an AIM Digital dash is and thats the only part to tempt me to sell this.

Dreamer maybe, but its 100% Authentic, Immaculate and set in an M3 cluster.

No worries at all. At £1000 its not that far off what the Germans are asking for their KPH versions, and this is set in an M3 cluster.

Guess I'll need to keep dreaming and polishing it.............

Hi Simon,

Yes you can compare the modifications with a stock unit.
