Hello people, new to all this recently so thought i would put my recent purchase online to show you all...

Always fancied a 325i sport really but had difficulty finding an honest example for decent money... that wasnt a rust bucket. Then i cam across this one... 318is!!

I had previously owned an e36 318is which i loved so i decided to take a punt on this one.... havnt regreted it yet :D

Any things i should look lout for?

Paint work needs abit of work but will get it done.

welcome to the zone ! looks nice ! old red paint can fade, but a bit of work and polishing and detailing can have it come up nice, maybe look for a professional, look through the 1st couple of pages of the photo gallery section youl find a thread someone paid £150 for a professional job, the results look fantastic, well worth the money !

things to check, maybe when the timing chain was last changed, and give it a thorough service for peace of mind and get it running tip top, cleaning the icv, inlet, throttle assembly and ajust cable, with carb cleaner, is a good thing to do ! oil+filter, fuel filter, pas and brake fluid, diff and gear box oil, coolant flush, would all be well worth doing and get the car tip top, then you will know its all been done, make a note of milage and date in the history or service book, and can start your own servicing schedule from there !!

and give the car a good check over for rust, leaks, check things like the jacking points, clean all the arches behind and remove any crud

also- get down on the floor, feel along the bottom of the sills along the INSIDE of the lip along the bottom, feel along that lip very carefuly, youl feel some "slots" that sort of stick out but only slightly, these are the sill drainage holes, very important to clean them out, theres 4 or 5 on each sill- clean in there with something like a real thin tiny screew driver or bit of wire coat hanger etc - just slide it in the drainage slits and wiggle about etc make sure they are all clear of any crud

Thanks polsta..... well yer true its the typical faded red paint work. My brother in law is a very good panel beater so will ask him on his advice. The milage is currently 100k so a service is the first thing on the agender...

couple of issues on first getting the car on the ramp... not sure if its a common thing but the exhaust manifold is blowing (cracked around the first branch). The car sits really low at the front without having lowering kit so think the front shocks or springs have gone. Slight oil leak from the rover cover so hopfully just a gasket. Due to the S**t weather quite alot of water in the passenger side footwell but sunroof and under bulk head is dry as a bone 8O...

As for the body work has had alot of work done... all jacking points have been done and the sills have been replaced all the way along.. not the greatest of repair. not a spot of rust on it!!

Ill add more pictures tomorrow of bits and pieces.

+1 for paint correction,

A respray in clear over base is the typical mistake made with brilliant red cars! ok it'll look great for a few years but when the red fades -and it will eventually- there is no way to rescue it.

Period BMW paint is very tough find a detailer close to you that knows his stuff and get the major pannels done, you'll be made up with the result!

Looks a nice car in the picture

Fuel tank vent solenoid valve. Only fitted on cars with a cat and other emissions equipment.
There's a small rubber hose coming from the inlet manifold/throttle body for the valve as well, which must be blocked off.
