Easy id on this engine?

I believe its an M52TU?
Anyway to identify which it is though without scratching round for the engine number?
Capicity embossed on the block somewhere?

looks like one as it as has the twin VANOS.

is that a M50 2.5 manifold on it?

I was fairly sure it was M52 and not M54 but how to tell which size?

if the manifolds not been swaped about from standard. it be stamped on that. 2.5, 2.8. but not easy to see with it on the car

not sure about the ECU part number if that can tell you but with a try but you have to ring up a main dealers or check realoem.com and cross ref the number

Well its got an M50 manifold so rules that way out but good call on the ECU number.

There was a blue convertible round here with an M50 in of some description, that was rough too.

Reading your first post - on the block at the rear of the engine, passenger side there is a casting lump with engine capacity stamped on.

It certainly operates but discs and pads look like they are about to disintigrate.

Ive no idea till I start pulling it apart mate.
It seems to run ok but im sure daylight will reveal a few surprises

Looks like twin vanos cam cover? But m50 style inlet? Which is strange because twin vanos M52 use M54 style manifolds...

Was gonna say it looks weirdly close to the rad but it doesnt look like the rad is on it's brackets properly.

Deffo twin vanos cam cover but the M50/52 has a completely different inlet different port shape than the M52TU, can't see it making much power with a mismatched manifold, no vanos control and whack-ass M50 management.

Looks to me as if it has an m50 maf ! My guess is its running m50 non vanos managmet too
