Engine died

OK, this is a shot in the dark. I'll describe the symptoms.......

For a while, when starting-up warm, my M20 has occasionally revved up to about 2.5k for a few seconds and then dropped back to it's normal idle speed.

This evening, it was a b17ch to start from cold - which it isn't usually - and when it did start it went straight to 2.5k and stayed there. I had to get to work, so I drove it like that for about 5 miles (I know, I know......). Then the engine just died and wouldn't start again.

I'm thinking ICV. Anyone got any better ideas??

Thanks Steve. It's only for the query, though. I can't be doing with all the slagging and flaming. ......And anyway, I've got a time-consuming hobby that doesn't involve E30s.

Back to the problem........ It's sorted. It was the ECU. I haven't opened it up to see if there's anything visual, but the car wouldn't start when I got back to it this morning and when I got as far as swapping ECUs it started straight away. Just as well, as I have a spare of just about everything except the ICV. I really need to get one.
