Hi all its been a while my sports been sat rotting in the garage for about 2years now. lately ive been saving up for a new car until i saw, for the first time in a long time, a spanking e30 pull out of the local supermarket so ive now decided the money ive saved is going to restore my pride and joy. Now down to business i may have slightly cooked my engine so ive been thinking of putting another engine in(same 2.5 straight 6). The question is other than the engine what will i need from a doner car?

You wouldn't need anything extra from the Doner car, perhaps the ecu and AFM will have different part numbers.
I would be swapping everything off the doner car thats better than whats on your sport

Nooo, You wouldnt find a rattly m20 heap in an e36 or e46
You can get them in e28's and e21's
E30's were the last car to come with an m20 and were the best of the bunch tbh
e21's were only in 323i guise or a 320 carb
e28's had the 2.0 version and thats the lot, the 525i had a 2.5 M30 150 bhp boat anchor
The m20 has been around since 1977 iirc ?????

E28 525e is an M20B27, i.e. it's a 2.7 version of the M20.Alex wrote:e28's had the 2.0 version and thats the lot, the 525i had a 2.5 M30 150 bhp boat anchor
The 2693 cc M20B27 was designed for efficiency (thus the e for the Greek letter eta in 325e) and low-rev torque. Compared with the M20B25, the stroke is increased from 75 mm (3.0 in) to 81 mm (3.2 in).
Power output is 121 hp at 4,250 rpm for M20B27 engines produced up until 1987 and 127 hp at 4,800 rpm for the 325es model produced in 1988. Peak torque is 170 lb·ft at 3,250 rpm for M20B27 engines. In 1987, the fuel injection was upgraded from Motronic 1.0 to Motronic 1.1/1.3

Early E34's had M20's too IIRC
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Apparently you can make them quite feisty with a 325i cylinder head and a bit of tweaking. Search on mye28 for 'e to i conversion' if you're interested in going down that road.Alex wrote:Forgot about that, in standard form i wouldnt want to change an m20b25 for a standard 525e engine
