MOT finished where shall i start.
needs
2 new front drop links(in stock)
2 new track rod ends
2 new outer drive shaft rubbers(maybe second hand shafts easier, and ideas?)
1 corroded rear brake pipe(urmm i paid for the front to rear and both rear parts to be replaced last year)
2 new rear wheel bearings(had an idea about these anyway(one in stock)
both front headlights aim to low(didnt adjust after replacing rear springs)
and the CO2 is to high.
pass is 3.50 or less my score is 3.55!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and the avisories.
headbrake 16% efficient
windscreen chip passenger side
front copper brake pipes all slightly corroded
front flexi hoses both deteriorated.
All in all not that bad for someone with more time than i have on my hands.
So tips on
rear bearings replacement.
if anyone has a pair of good abs rear shafts ide be interested.
and apart from a service what will help lower CO2?
If got a rich running M20B25 and have been trying to solve this all summer(kinda when ive time).
Any help on the above all welcome.
Peter

If you want to fire over with the car I'll happily lend a hand with the work that needs done. If we get stuck, my loft is full of all sorts and we can borrow bits from the Sport as it's all there.
Let me know, I'm around this weekend if it'll help. I'm down South until late tomorrow night.
Worth talking to James considering he's got a pile of bits lying around and no E30.

Rear wheel bearings are a bitch - I would take the trailing arms off, take them to a garage with the new bearings and get them to press the old ones out and new ones in.
For emmissions put a new air filter in and take it for a proper blast before the retest
could be blue temp sensor if its running rich ?

First of all the rear drive shaft boots are NOT part of the test so the car has been incorrectly failed for that item.Sanchez wrote:MOT finished where shall i start.

However, of the correct fail criteria has been applied to the wheels bearings ie
1.Excessive roughness in a rear wheel bearing.
2. Excessive play in a rear wheel bearing, indicating severe maladjustment or wear.
Then this is an ideal opportunity to replace the boot/s.
The air cleaner and a check of the plugs may well help you to get below the limit. Although I would think that a std 325 would be well below, probably around 1.5%.
Which brake pipe is it? Pipes even made of monkey metal normally would last more than a year

Rear arms will come off and bushes get pushing in via garage 10 tonne press ive decided.
Rear pipe is the small one on the trailing arm that didnt get replaced.
Service and wee blast seams to be the order of the day.
Yep rear bearings failed as mentioned above.

They are a failure . It's one of the many new failures which were added early part of this yearFirst of all the rear drive shaft boots are NOT part of the test so the car has been incorrectly failed for that item

All boots and gaitors are now part of the test according to my MOT man. And I've used him for the past 5 years on many carshennabm wrote:

Can you elaborate on how the CV boots are not a fail? Mine failed on the same last year and I had to pay to have the boot replaced. If you don't mind me asking are you a MOT tester?

It shouldn't have failed last year. If you are talking about a e30. As the rear drive shafts went part of the test. Only the front outer ones were
As of january this year the rear drive shaft gaiter became a fail and the front inner gaiters aswell

All the new boot failures that have come in are to do with 'preventing the ingress of dirt'.
If the boot has a pin hole then its not really a fail.
If its blatently flailing around in the wind the dirts gonna get in and its a fail.
And last year it shouldn't have failed, sag is right.
Yes i'm an MOT tester.
Hope that helps

Love to mate but it'll cost you 25k a year (for when i lose my job and you have to reimburse me lol)
To be honest, the stuff your car has failed on is a godsend, no mention of rust on it anyway. Much rather a mechanical repair on an e30 than one thats rot related.
The drop links and the rod ends can be had new from gsf for peanuts and they're normally lemforder items.
Granted the rear wheel bearings are a pig, maybe just get 2 rear trailing arms off the zone, complete with bearing and do it that way? Got some in my garage!

Dont worry i prefer a legit MOT as at least the cars getting better than getting worse which is my aim.
I knew the rust was ok. Like you say its not all bad.
It looks worse on paper.

The changes that occurred in January this year brought into the test the inner CV gaitor/boot on front wheel drive vehicles.
The gaitor/boot on rear wheel drive shafts only apply when the drive shaft forms part of the rear suspension, which it does NOT on an E30.
Referring to the MOT testers manual;
Section 2.5 of the manual deals with FWD vehicles.
Section 2.4 (last page) deals with RWD vehicles. The clue is in the Method of Inspection "on vehicles which have a drive shaft which forms part of the suspension"

Another thing ive heard of is people getting failed for having HID's with out having self leveling adjusters and a wash device.
Those reasons for refusal (ie reason to fail) have not come into effect yet despite what the internetz would have you believe.
