I've fitted a new water pump and cambelt to an M20B25, everything it torqued up correctly and a new paper gasket has been used with the pump.

Thing is water is leaking quite badly from between the pump and the block. Could this be a duff pump, rubbish gasket or something else?

Did you clean everything up properly?

Or the gasket be misaligned, easy done?

Either some crap left from the old water pump gasket on the block, the new gasket or the mating face on the new pump...

Yea pretty sure it all had a good scrub beforehand, might be worth pulling it apart and checking the gasket again. Good few hours wasted :x

Very easy to 'miss' one of the bolt holes in a M20 water pump gasket when fitting it. Even more so if you're trying to fit it while fighting the belt tensioner spring.
