Registered 1st June 1988 - they were launched here June 2nd!

A bit of you that is. The raging 129 bhp will prove entertaining. At least it's a manual-you've not experienced real fear until you've combined a busy junction with a 12v 520i Auto.

I actually agree!! Was expecting some horrid old turd but that is quite nice. Extremely old-manish but comfy old Sunday cruiser. Not a rush-hour traffic commuter carAndyboy wrote:isn't it a nice old thing?

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

But it is a 520i why would you want it ? Slow and heavy. Unless you just have a particular penchant for E34s or do you plan to strip it for parts ?

Has a nice history though .... Did not release these older BMWs have to have either Oil Service / Inspection I / Inspection II every year but also the annual check ?

Looked at a 530i on the "E" same colour back in the day. Was for sale at DC Autos in Nork Banstead. I didn't buy it because it was such an early one.
Ended up with an alpine white 1990 G 525i SE.
I think that needs buying.

Well I just do not know why you would want a 520i in a big heavy car that is what I do not understand ?
Edit .... I just re read your post .... Because it is rare
Doesn't really do anything for me though ?
But one of the early E30 323i launch cars does

e34s seem to be disappearing at a scary rate.I now have a 320 cab and am selling my e34 525 non vanos manual. I drive them both and the e34 feels much more modern, smooth and quiet with good handling. there doesnt seem to be much interest in it and i think its a real shame as they are lovely cars. when you think of some of the crap that people spend thousands on restoring and end up with a crap car in good nick. Cant remember when i last saw a 520 12v.This looks a lovely old thing.

It's not really about the fact it's a 520i tbh, it's the fact that it is an unmolested very early carwhich just makes it cool. As Andyboy said, it's neither going to make you rich or turn peoples heads as such but for what it is, it's great!pony wrote:Well I just do not know why you would want a 520i in a big heavy car that is what I do not understand ?

I too like the early 323i launch cars but then again I would, this one is the one rescued earlier in the year by myself now owned by my brother, we aim to get stuck into restoring this in the next few months (storage permitting)

Your defo going to be a E30 hero if you rescue that good and proper
The other early BMWs that do it for me is a really nice Manual Gearbox E46 M3 Coupe on a Y Registration (or X Registration as per Chris Harris Autocar Road Test but that may have been a prototype or pre launch car ....)
The E21 323i also appeals but I not sure if they were launched early or late in the product life cycle.

It's my brothers car now, I gave it to him in a moment of madness but I think we will both be chipping away at this one to get it back to former glory (that's the theory anyway)
Early cars are great, if you like these early types it surprises me that the appeal of the car in the OP doesn't appeal? You have to look past the engine/box/colour combo sometimes but ultimately the odd colours and poverty spec sometimes make them just as cool IMO
Oh and cheers yes, hope to get that 323i on the road some day

The Launch E30's were for the model launch in Spain. Press ones were just that, used by the press.

Spotted this on eBay a few days ago. Looks a lovely old thing and well worth having. I can't remember the last time I saw an E34 on an E plate. 5-10 years ago they're used to be literally loads of them but most must've been scrapped by now.
Herring & Palmer in Norwich have got a Dolphin Grey F Plate 520i auto up for sale at the moment for £995. Very low mileage (70'ish K iirc) but the bodywork has a few more issues than the eBay example. A manual M20 520i is "leisurely" at best so the auto must be milkfloat'esque in acceleration! Does anyone know the official 0-60 figures?

The unnoficial heavy traffic T junction launch procedure for the 12v auto 520i is select 1st, foot on brake, full throttle to converter stall and launch the thing.
