Driving up and down a yard wont get you ready for any car let alone this one!

Que the eBay ad with it smashed or a link in external ads on here to a copart or some other salvage auction.

Insured in your mums name. Hmmm.

Famous last words.
17 year old boy, with no real driving experience, + car, usually = crash.
17 year boy, with no real driving experience + 2.7 rwd car = Almost certain crash.

At 14 I was driving a 200 hp M3 and a 350 hp on track. But at 17 a 1.6 E30 caught me out a couple of times. Being on the road is a different kettle of fish.

Oh he's looking after it alright- already bought it 2 sets of tyres in a month from getting used to it in his back yard!! Must be a bugger to find the blighting point and is just doing burnouts up and down!!

All well and good in the back yard but take care on the open road mate, I've had plenty bumps and scrapes over the years- in smaller cars than this with more driving experience. Your insurance quote was £3500 for a reason.

Its a nice motor, would be a shame to see it in a hedge and you on a slab.

Ah yes! My sincerest apologies to the OP.

I hope you look after the car and be sensible with it.

To be fair, my best mate sold his 320iS to a 16 year old lad 3 years ago and the car is still in one piece.

He is on here in fact under the user name E30_KIDD.

I love all the "you will smash it to pieces" posts. I bought my stripped and caged sport when I was 17 and it's still in one piece several years later  but then again I didn't pay £3.5k to insure the car in someone else' name, that's plain retarded.

sure so long as he takes it carefull all will be well, love to have a peek at what griffin did to the engine :)

like ross, i had a MK2 escort rs2000 and an astra gte 16v at 17/18 admittedly not as powerful as the above, but i never really got in any scrapes. :)

the insurance is abit sketch though, :?

Unfortunately the odds are against this car remaining intact. Of course there are exceptions as mentioned here. Hope this car is one of them. An inexperienced hot-head behind the wheel of a breathed-upon 2.7 rwd usually spells disaster!! Comment on back yard antics does nothing to reassure!!

But I think I would've been the same at the OP's age with this in my possesion so hope the OP enjoys it and treats it with a bit of respect. Smoking tyres in the back yard is a different ballgame to driving properly

Someone should link up Lee's insurance story about the car insured in a Mum's name that was involved in a fatal crash....

In all seriousness if you ever crack the engine open be sure to take lots of photos.
Griffin did something funny with those lumps and it would be good to know what.
By all accounts tsunami something along the lines of modified pugeot pistons.

In my original thread on this car i typed the actual road test from a magazine and the engine spec. I'm not sure what they did to the head but i'm sure it just had mahle pistons. It was quick but my Stannard engined sport is a lot quicker!

To the original poster, be VERY careful with the whole deal of your mother insuring the car with you as a named driver. This is what is called "fronting". The insurers are pretty hot on it.

If you have a bad smack, especially if you hit someone else, they will probably start making further enquiries to see if you are the main user/ it is your car. If they rumble you then they will void your policy, but worse than that, when they have finished paying out the third party, they will come after your mum for the thousands they have paid out.

Good post Lee. Do you have the Cornish(?) one that involved fatalities and parent's losing their house and everything? Not to shock but to put it out there again.
