I need to replace my sump but there were two cables attached in there somewhere...(assuming oil pump)but they have ripped off from somwhere..still attached to a plug that ripped off...can i make a safe reconnection within the sump area?...its an m50 2.5 engine? Thanks..
Il try get a pic up later of the cables...

that looks like the oil level sender, you will need a fresh one only 2 nuts and a connector. now thats finished,as is the sump, the selector most proberly broken the alloy bracket easy done with these.ive done a couple of sumps black ice!in the past, easy to change without droping the x member or lifting the engine it can be done, ive got the tee shirt!macas wrote:Actually theres 3wires that has severed...also do i have to replace my broken gear selector from underneath the car or can i do it from inside the car?

Gear selector is done from underneath the car, and you need to remove the exhaust and exhaust heatshield to get to it. It'll be interesting to see how you've damaged it considering the shrapnel would have to get past all that... unless it was you yanking on it!
As others have said, you're looking at the oil level sensor cables which should have their own plug further up the loom (or at least they do on M20 engines).

thanks grrr, just found it in the wiki and it sounds like its goin to be a barsteward!!
I hit the kerb straight on,so im presuming when the engine has hit the kerb it has pushed the engine back and broke the selector?
I am hoping that part of the loom that sits within the sump can be replaced!

seen a few brake this way.
as ive said you can change the sump without to much problems, its tight but can be done without droping x member/lifting engine.the sensor is a very minor part you may have to get a small piece of loom of a scrap car and re solder it,depends were its damaged(picture wont load?)

dont worry your not the first to do this,it is a crap feeling now but just think it could have been much worse than just looseing a sump&few bits of broken brackets, there is twisted shell&bent suspension parts you could add to the list, lucky its only a sump..p.s glade you got an lsd fitted,if it had been a welded diff then tuff crap&serves you write would have sprung to mind!

I don't envy you having to replace that sump though

I think the 2ltr sump will fit no probs so long as it is from an E34.
Replacing it will either involve lifting the engine well clear of the cross member/ taking the engine out, or suspending the engine in place and removing the subframe from underneath. Good times

Careful though, early E34's are M20.
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.
