Cool. I take it youre talking a fully stripped E30 with a worked on M52 against a fully larded up E30 with an S50?

I can understand the M52 making a better track car for the weight and price reasons etc, and I'm seriously thinking about it, but I'm thinking I'm gunna miss the grunt (and noise) that the S50 has, plus the sheer driveability in every gear.
The s50'd turd was as lardy as they come :D Tech 2 kit, leatherzz, ICE, The lot!! and yes the track car is stripped bare with some engine fiddling.

The S50 wins hands down for looks, kudos and at anything over 100 MPH. A good mildly modded M52 wont feel slow mate, Danthe was actually quicker (only just) up the 1/4 mile with a m52 than my s50 both in full road trim.

So was my S50 - still fun though :D

I guess off the line, the M52 will be quicker with less mass to get moving and no dual mass flywheel to get spinning! I never did get rid of the DMF on my S50... winkeye

For those who've painted rocker covers and intake manifolds, what sort of paint did you use? Was normal automotive paint alright, or is this some sort of high-temp enamel?

And hi-build primer, or paint straight on metal?

And my before:

I believe it came from a Royal Navy destroyer that was being decommissioned. If you look in his cabin you'll see where you shovel the coal in.

(It's an M30B35 from an E24/E28/E34.) :D

It really doesn't need to be heat proof paint, regular paint will withstand engine bay temperatures.

I might do, he is refurbishing my 17" and 18" azev a's at the moment so I might just give him the rocker cover and inlet manifold too.

I've seen his work, top notch.
