My bay ( I think ) is fairly neat compared to what iv seen before and im proud of it, but yesterday I decided to do an engine bay clean up V2. Going to get the silver shining like chrome, redo the black and get a german flag on the rocker somewhere. I know there was a " whos got the cleanest bay " thread before but i think its pruned.

Heres how my engine WAS and how it is now

Impressive. Mines rather tired looking.

Will do it at some point. Did you replace much?

Or is it mostly elbow grease?

I really enjoyed doing it, if you wernt over the pond i woulda volunteered.

I put that airfilted on, and its in a different car but its all just elbow grease. As i say im not finished yet, gunna attack it with some auto glym and the german colours. I fancy painting the bmw badge too, il need to buy a wee pot of white and blue. Might think about getting black silicone hoses. I want a 6 branch aswell, even if i dont get power gains theyr just so pretty

Thats lovely magpie. Im just thinking about taking a strut brace off a zoner, really bring the bay to life not to mention the rigidity bonus.

Haha barx, should get that shit gleaming

yeah alright magpie we all know you have done a conversion, we dont need it for the 50 millionth time in every thread

excellent work verde, add a guide of what you did and used exactly, would be interested to read !

the rmp strut braces are good mate and very well made, avoid the chrome type ebay cheap ones, they are bad !!

I have so little interest it's the antithesis of my raison d'etre. I drive, I don't clean.. You should see my car, it's a proper state

If i see it at a meet give me an hour with it and itl be shiny haha. I can really appreciate that attitude though, theyr drivers cars first off. Function over form.

If folks are interested il make a guide next week as im not finished yet, iv got to get the polished bit glowing and the german flag on. I basically just used alot of time and effort.

Out of interest, which do you prefer? I realise one is track based, the other a road car, but was wondering your opinion, as I'm thinking M52 or another S50

Dan, I know!! I have plenty more, I will get them up when i get a chance :D

JMC, The s50 is great and I am glad i done it, but the m52 is as quick in the real world and for a track car it is better engine IMO. Lighter, and if it does go pop it is a couple of hundred pound for another engine.

Cool. I take it youre talking a fully stripped E30 with a worked on M52 against a fully larded up E30 with an S50?

I can understand the M52 making a better track car for the weight and price reasons etc, and I'm seriously thinking about it, but I'm thinking I'm gunna miss the grunt (and noise) that the S50 has, plus the sheer driveability in every gear.
