K&N 57i induction kit (worth it or not?)
Moderator: martauto
I have been chatting with a few people I know about fitting a kit and opinion is very much divided. Just wanted to know if it's worth splashing the £60 on a M20B20, will I get anything for my money, the car is very standard.

Well established that engines run better on cool air, standard box takes it's feed from behind the grille/l/h headlight.Cone filter will take air from within the engine bay.
You might,just,gain 1bhp from a K@N panel filter....

Youth is wasted on the young.
The only aftermarket air filter that has shown any improvement in airflow is the BNC canister air filter but even this is marginal IIRC.
The K&N just sucks in the warm air under the bonnet. Save your money and get a BBTB if your looking for a cheaper route for an increase in BHP or spend a bit more and get a 6 branch/schrick cam.

On an M20B20, there's nothing you can do that doesn't cost pounds. An air filter is especially pointless.

Thanks for the responses, some respected names saying they are a waste of time means, on this occasion I won't be investing, so K&N your fired.
Pete, I managed to get my motor to work in the end. How long it will stay that way...we will have to see.
I might take the panel filter off you though if you give me a discount

I fitted a Speedtouch mild chip a couple of months ago and I was impressed, that's how this all started with the induction kit thing, I was talking to a mate about fitting the chip and he told me that an induction kit was the way to go, he's a bit of a boy racer with a stripped out Clio Cup. But after reading all the post against, I definitely wont fit one.

This, and make sure you clean it when you would be replacing a paper filter.pacerpete wrote:I have a good used K+N panel filter for £20 , you can collect it when you get the wiper motor !

The only way to make a small gain is if u remove a headlight and have the filter getting air rammed in like that. Otherwise u get a bit better response but no power gains. I didnt really believe people til I saw mighty car mods doing a mythbust on airfilters
