I have been chatting with a few people I know about fitting a kit and opinion is very much divided. Just wanted to know if it's worth splashing the £60 on a M20B20, will I get anything for my money, the car is very standard.

You will get nothing, standard airbox is well designed.

Well established that engines run better on cool air, standard box takes it's feed from behind the grille/l/h headlight.Cone filter will take air from within the engine bay.

You might,just,gain 1bhp from a K@N panel filter....

Total waste of time mate, it will do nothing for your car. Only a heavily tuned and turbo'd engine will slightly benefit from an induction kit.

Just get a very good quality panel filter.

The only aftermarket air filter that has shown any improvement in airflow is the BNC canister air filter but even this is marginal IIRC.

The K&N just sucks in the warm air under the bonnet. Save your money and get a BBTB if your looking for a cheaper route for an increase in BHP or spend a bit more and get a 6 branch/schrick cam.

On an M20B20, there's nothing you can do that doesn't cost pounds. An air filter is especially pointless.

If you really want one I have a secondhand one in my garage, but it's for a 325i, I'm pretty sure that you can change the maf sensor over from your air box..

Pm me if your interested :D

Thanks for the responses, some respected names saying they are a waste of time means, on this occasion I won't be investing, so K&N your fired.

Pete, I managed to get my motor to work in the end. How long it will stay that way...we will have to see.
I might take the panel filter off you though if you give me a discount winkeye

When I bought my e30 (m42) it came with an induction cone. I put the standard box back in and the engine ran so much smoother. Didn't notice any loss in power..

As above, panel filter if you're really keen for an upgrade.

Otherwise OEM is the way to go.

the only thing you'll gain for your £60 is a lot more induction noise.
cheers,

Or get a new chip from Speedtouch etc

I fitted a Speedtouch mild chip a couple of months ago and I was impressed, that's how this all started with the induction kit thing, I was talking to a mate about fitting the chip and he told me that an induction kit was the way to go, he's a bit of a boy racer with a stripped out Clio Cup. But after reading all the post against, I definitely wont fit one.

This, and make sure you clean it when you would be replacing a paper filter.

The only way to make a small gain is if u remove a headlight and have the filter getting air rammed in like that. Otherwise u get a bit better response but no power gains. I didnt really believe people til I saw mighty car mods doing a mythbust on airfilters
