since buying my cabrio the aerial has been up, the previous owner said it was like that since the day they bought it and it hasn't bothered them.

but to me it looks like a radio controlled car when its parked with the roof off.

it has a after market headunit in there if that helps in anyway.

So how do i put it back down its an electric aerial

First check the aerial itself. Pull back the trim in the boot and check if the command wires are connected to the aerial. If it's an original style aerial it has a red and white wire running from the aerial.

Take the headunit out and see if the aerial command wire is connected to the headunit correctly.

Do you hear the motor trying to wind it in when you turn the ignition off?

If so take the Arial out an WA nk the shite out of it. I fixed mine like this, they seem to just rot and get stuck, although mine has since stopped working again. They are not hard to take apart.

If its still knackered after you tried 'w n king' it (???) then some joy is that they not that expensive to get new one bought.

It should be connected to the head unit, it should have an Arial signal usually blue, if not it might be connected to the remote output usually a blue and white wire, confirm this with a volt/continuity tester, post back your results

Take the fuse out and go and hide under your bed.

check the wiring going into the unit, it could be a dry connection. there should be a wiring diagram, so have an educated probe about with 12v and with a bit of luck it will go down. It could be related to the signal from the head unit & the relay

the popped fuse? and the clicking noise and it wont start when replaced with a new fuse.

if the fuse has gone then 'probe' the motor unit contacts/wires directly with 12v, and it may go down..
