my question is ....the E30's ive had with m20 2.5l engines in at 170bhp can be a handful in the wet.
How do you drive a car like this with 600bhp in the wet...i mean ..im not a bad driver but i think i might struggle to cope with it tbh.

its not about sensibility...600bhp in a rwd car is going to be a challenge in the wet in any mode or style of driving imhoKos wrote:nothing's handful if you drive sensiblywalrus1968 wrote:my question is ....the E30's ive had with m20 2.5l engines in at 170bhp can be a handful in the wet.

why would it be a problem/challenge if you are aware of the power, the power delivery etc if you know the car and its limits you'll be finewalrus1968 wrote:its not about sensibility...600bhp in a rwd car is going to be a challenge in the wet in any mode or style of driving imhoKos wrote:nothing's handful if you drive sensiblywalrus1968 wrote:my question is ....the E30's ive had with m20 2.5l engines in at 170bhp can be a handful in the wet.

it is about beings sensible. controlling your right foot is the challenge and driving in a manor that is appropriate to the conditions
even if you just stuck a 600bhp engine in an e30 with no upgrades to brakes/suspension/diff ( even though its a stupid thing to do ) you can still drive it normally with out problems in all conditions if you are sensible.

Im a fan of big power cars, but something like this is not my bag with its white wheels, black bonnet and silicone hoses visible through the bumper. Not really a car to be seen in if your over the age of 21.
A monaro can be purchased for less money and with its ls engine it can give comparable bhp for not much outlay, and at the same time be reliable.

The accelerator isn't an ON/OFF switch...it offers progression.walrus1968 wrote:its not about sensibility...600bhp in a rwd car is going to be a challenge in the wet in any mode or style of driving imhoKos wrote:nothing's handful if you drive sensiblywalrus1968 wrote:my question is ....the E30's ive had with m20 2.5l engines in at 170bhp can be a handful in the wet.

Also, just turn the boost down?
If you think a 325i is tricky in the wet you need to have a word with yourself and stop driving like a twat.
An accelerator pedal isn't an on/ off switch, a 600bp car is only goin to be making 600bhp at full throttle at a certain point in the rev range.
I can imagine it could be quite a handful of you wanted it to be

Not my cup of tea but that would be a weapon! Too much power for me for the traction available, I think I'd find it frustrating having to be so delicate with the throttle. Nothing wrong with hi-po engines, and as already mentioned, it's only as dangerous as the person behind the wheel. It would certainly be fun though
Bit ott for me. Black, white and red in all the wrong places. Its the 318 V5 that worries me for the lad.
Try that arguement with Flux and he may get a shock. Has he ever heard of " disclosure of all modifications". If he has, and he has done it and the insurer still lets him thru on a 318 then he seriously needs to get a second opinion before he hits something or god forbid...someone!

Still having 318 on the V5 log book is not a crime or bad thing in anyway.
Its if someone is Implying that you can declare it as a 318 to an insurance company is where it becomes immoral.
Even if if did notify the dvla that you had changed the engine it would still say 318i just the cc would change to whatever engine size you state in this case 2996 cc or whatever the s50 is.

I've also known people who have done engine conversions and declared it to their insurance company but not the dvla.
I know technically this is wrong and they should always be informed of any changes, but on an e30 it's not going to make any difference to the amount of tax they pay, the classification of the vehicle or the model name so you can see why they wouldn't bother.

3-350bhp is about the usable limit for the E30 chassis imo. Anything more and it just becomes a tyre shredder.

And e30 with 250bhp is a pretty quick car.

a 325i set up well with some choice tires is nicely predictable. Mine was a dream down wet country roads, covered in cow turd, frost, snow, whatever, I just let the car do the work and kept any input down to a minimum. Set the car up well before the corner and always have a contingency. If it gets out of shape, respond with some careful but forceful input, and avoid hitting the brakes until it's straghtened up!! It did help driving one to work cross country every day (I had the option of dual carriageway, but that was proper boring) 50 mins in the morning after a strong coffee and then in the evening, after a days slog for 2 years through all 4 seasons gets the skillz up. It took about 3 months of owning one to really get to grips with it, there's no question it takes familiarisation & you have to push it to find out where the limits are before trying anything daft - it also helped having super sh1t suspension and 14" steels with none descript tires in the winter, I think that was what increased my respect for the power. If a 325i is a handful, try flying a helicopter - now that requires concentration.
350 is well enough, 250 would be pretty much untouchable for 99% of the other cars on the road, 170 is about right for a 1250kg e30 really
the 135 or so in my iS will propel me past most of the muppets on the road, but 16's with decent tires are a must to keep the speed through the corners.

Yeah its a tyre shredder, yeah you cant use the power, yeah its a bit asbo, yeah its a handful etc etc etc but i would genuinely give a testicle for this car, love it.
(ps i've had kids so testicles are now surplus, anyone know where i can sell one?)
