Fuel pump is easily accessed by pulling up the rear seat cushion and unscrewing the inspection cover on the right hand side. Pull off both electrical plugs, unscrew and remove four small nuts an washers, lift out the fuel level sensor, remove both fuel pipes, rotate the pump assembly anticlockwise and lift out.
Pumps become noisy when the copper commutator in the motor wears through, but this doesn't normally happen until the car has covered 200,000 miles +.
Another possible reason for a pump to make an excessive noise is if the underside of the fuel tank is dented in, and the pump is touching the bottom.
