Which prop have you used?
318i/316i or 320i?
Simple question for anyone using a gearbox from an M40

Mine is 316i/318i if not wrong...have one prop in the garage if you want to try

i used an m42 box barry which needs 325 front section
but iirc the m40 box is slightly shorter than the m42 so 320 front section is needed

A 2 door e30 with 8 cylinders, what could be better

A 320i prop it is then.

They are mate, but as you prob well know you're best off using a whole item as they are balanced and marked as such
