The other pressure plate was fine, what could have caused this? can I clean it up on a surface grinder? Not sure how good the finish has to be, looks lapped but that could be caused by the rubbing over the years?!?

Oil was good, it hadnt done that many miles since i changed it but it did get a tiny bit of abuse. It locked up well and was reasonably quiet.

PM'd :)

Entirely saveable, i see loads like this. All too common with E30 LSD's now.

Surface grind, polish, new plates and as a result of the debris in the oil, all new bearings probably.

The bearings are when it gets tricky so unless you're a competent engineer it's best left to someone who knows how to carry this work out... like me :P

a higher lockup % means the amount of slip under load is reduced. an open diff is 0%, solid (welded) diff is 100%. Generally more lock makes the car more controllable on the limit but if you go too far it will be very lively in the wet as the wheels still need to rotate at different speeds to maintain traction
