That'll do mate, lots of redundant auto wires, but so what. Its what I used, if you have a manual TPS you will have to change plugs on that loom

Yes it will fit being from an E34/32 but it may have the later C101 plug.

Why dont you place the M20 loom over the engine and see whats what? Might be an easy swap.

if anything needs extending i can do that using the crap loom

Right wonder if someone can clear some confusion up

ive got a decent c101 connector from an m20 however do i wire it up color for colour ? or does someone have a list of what colours go to what, the one in my other thread confused me as all the pin numbers and colours were different. i didnt want to go of the connector i cut off as i'am not convinced the wiring is correct as the rev counter didnt work and i had 3/4 of tank fuel but light was one. half the crimps just fell of and some had allready came apart, how it ran i would never know. might be half the reason it sometimes runs iffy and sometimes perfect

Reason i havent got a new loom is because i looked at my bank balance this morning and need to leave some money for the rest of the month

Got plenty of heat shrink and bmw fabric tape so shouldnt look too shabby when done :D

I would first identify what colours to what pins you have on the car loom side of the C101
The file I sent you has all these wires on it mate, Don't forget you only need 5 or 6 connected to make it run.

are these 5-6 connections the basics ? do i need to connect more for other things to work ?

i was looking at your picture, ideally a few close ups of that would do the trick :D :D :D :D

The wire colours in the picture of the engine loom I posted will probably be the same or very similar to what you have on your loom, but my car is a late chromie so is one of the first models to actually have a c101 so the pin positions are more than likely to be different. I will do some digging

I have moved pins in the actual engine side socket so not to butcher the car side of the loom. If you know what I mean

i got ya :D

to be honest the engine i took the c101 plug off was a manual moredoor 325i on a G plate and thats what its going into, so i assume all the pins would be correct for the shell.

Its a case of what wires go with what colours on the m30 loom

On the wiring diagram I sent you the c101 is called the x20 connection. If you look at the charging section you will see a blue wire going through the x20 on pin number 1 this is the alternator feed. You need to confirm it is on pin one on the car side of the loom. So thats your first one, solder that one back on the loom.

ive managed to figure this out from various places on the net

E30 from wiki

Pin Colour Function To Image
1 Blue Charge light pin 16 blue plug inst cluster
2 Green/Yellow Static oil level Pin 16 check panel
3
4 Brown Temp gauge pin 26 blue plug inst cluster
5 Brown/Green Oil Pressure light pin 18 blue plug inst cluster
6 Green/White Oxygen sensor relay Fuse 9
7 Green Switched power Ignition switch
8 White/Black Fuel rate input pin 11 blue plug inst cluster
9 Black Engine speed input pin 7 blue plug inst cluster
10 Blue Dynamic Oil level pin 20 Check Panel
11 White/Green Reset service lights pin 22 blue plug inst cluster
12 Grey Check Engine indicator Check Light
13 Green/Purple fuel pump relay fuse 11
14 Black/White Speed signal out pin 10 white plug inst cluster
15 Black/Green Unloader relay pin 1 blue plug inst cluster
16 White/Black Diagnostic connector Diagnostic plug pin 6
17
18 Black/Yellow Start Ignition switch
19
20 Red/Yellow ABS power ABS control module

e34 from some random site

The E34 uses a round style connector to plug into the fuse box. This has 20 pins so I will list what the wires in each of those do.
Pin 1, BU goes to the alternator. Comes from the Instrument Cluster "charge indicator" light. BU in the fuse box.
Pin 2, GN/YL comes from oil lever sensor. It is BU/BK in the fuse box and runs to the static oil level active check control unit, which is the same as the oil level light.
Pin 4, BR/VI comes from the coolant temp sender unit. It is BR/VI in the fuse box and goes to the Instrument cluster temp gauge.
Pin 5, BR/GN Oil pressure switch. Runs to instrument cluster oil pressure light.
Pin 6, GN/WH goes to the O2 sensor heater relay. Gets power from fuse 9 and in the fuse box is colored GN/YL.
Pin 7, GN comes from the ignition switch and goes to the Start Input, in the motronic unit and it also goes to Pin 15 on the coil. In the fuse box it is colored GN.
Pin 8, WH/BK comes from the motronic unit "present fuel rate output". Is YL/WH in fuse box and runs to Fuel Economy Gauge in the bottom of the tach.
Pin 9, BK goes to the ECU Engine speed output. This is BK in the fuse box. On the E28 this actually should be the connected in C103.
Pin 10, BU comes from the oil level sensor. It is VI/GN in the fuse box and goes to the active check control unit as the dynamic oil level light.
Pin 11, WH/GN comes from Pin 7 of the diagnostic connector. Is WH/BU in the fuse box and goes to the Service Indicator Processor.
Pin 12, GY comes from the ECU and is the trigger for the "Check Engine" light control. In the fuse box it is BR/BK. This wire is not used on the E28, since there is no check engine light.
Pin 13, GN/VI comes from Pin 87 of fuel pump relay. Is VI/RD in fuse box and runs to Fuse 11.
Pin 14, BK/WH comes from motronic unit "Speed Signal Input". Is BU/YL in fuse box and goes to the Speed Input of the Instrument Cluster.
Pin 15, BK/GN comes from Pin 30h on the coil. In the fuse box it is BK/GN and runs to the unloader relays.
Pin 16, WH/BK comes from Pin 6 of diagnostic connector and is used in the SRS system. In the fuse box it is WH/BK and is said to be not used.
Pin 18, BK/YL is the starter trigger and comes from in the car. It is also BK/YL in the fuse box. It also runs to Pin 11 of the diagnostic connector.
Pin 20, RD/YL comes from Pin 87 of the main relay. It is RD/YL and goes to power the ABS Hydraulic Unit.

seems the same but that cant be right as half the colours were different

All I'm saying is that you can easily identify what wire does what on the engine loom. you just need to lift the rubber boot off the car side of the plug and identify those wires and pin locations are compatible before you commit to connecting them

I had one of these late looms when i was having running problems with mine.
I sent Bristol_jer a pm as he'd done the late loom swap and it was running fine, if i remember he wired it colour to colour but some wires were left out (not needed)

Drop him a pm, or search his post.

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... le&u=35172

Also remember later C101's have 25 pins whereas early ones have 20. :)

You need to wire it up as an E30 engine Alex, type out what you have in each pin and I will try and help

ive done everthing colour to colour apart from the two oil level sensor wires which ive done as per s38 as there are no matching wires.

Ive cross referenced every pin number from here and the wiki

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/ ... ing1-1.jpg

however i'am left with no abs wire on the m30 loom :S

according to this i think ive done the right thing with the oil level sensor

i pm'd bristol_jr and it apperars ive wired it all correctly apart from the two oil level sensors (static and dynamic)

here what it looks like ive got some bmw fabric tape and will remove the unused wires.

Image

these are the last bits i need to sort out

Green/black wire for underloaded relay what ever one of them is :o:

Image

and i belive this is the oil level sensor but i'am unsure where this connects to, not sure why it was removed originally :?
