Thinking of getting the skirts off for a clean may or may not go back on can someone point me in the direction of an idiots guide? I assume they bolt on from underneath
Seen this but its not too clear to me

Shouldn't be any screws underneath
You'll have to get the holes filled in that the top clips sit in if you're leaving them off. Plus any rust they're hiding.

Not at all.
There shouldn't be any screws at all. The Wiki link you posted shows everything you need to know. There are;
7 holes along the top of the skirt the top clip push into.
2 plastic rivet in the rear arch
Then there are a load of clips on the under side of the skirts, can't remember how many but they are easy to see.
1 screw on the bottom of the wing, this is fitted to all E30s.

Ahhhhh, no point looking at a fitting guide fo SE skirts then!
Tech 1 skirts should be screwed on along the bottom with hex screws, screws into brackets on the front wings and plastic rivets on the rear and then similar clips along the top like the SE skirts.

Paul.. the skirts on your car were fitted by the owner i bought it from, i had never taken them off but they looked to have the original fitting clips on the underside (along the cill lip) then they had just been screwed in to the lip on each wheel arch, if you look behind the skirts from an above angle they look like they have been either bonded or heavy double sided tape used to hold them to the cill.
hope this help's
hope this help's

Also as higher powers on the zone have informed me
, they shouldn’t be bonded on but correctly fitting to make removal easier, im watching with interest as mine are bonded on to, I want to see how much of the cill comes away with the skirt

To be honest, if you take them off and find a 50p sized blister now that isn't rotten properly it's going to take you the cost of a wire wheel, kurust, etch primer, can of spray and some under seal/waxoil.
Leave it a year and what could be £10-20 outlay and half an hour with a grinder could turn into having to get some welding done.
And if you do find something horrific, tell the zone it was factory mint, bond those fuckers on like no tomorrow and shove the turd on piston heads sharpish

Like I said:
I would rather know if my turd was rotten with some tech1 side skirts nailed over it than not knowross_jsy wrote:And if you do find something horrific, tell the zone it was factory mint, bond those ******* on like no tomorrow and shove the turd on piston heads sharpish

i wouldn't worry to much as the car was stripped to the bare metal for it's respray and the guy i got it from say's the Tech 1 skirts were added about 4/5 mths after (hence how they look a slightly different shade) and the sill's are suppose to be black, look closely at yours, there red which does indicate they were painted when the car was318isPMK wrote:Yeah I seen that and its making me nervous about damaging the paint!
Boyd knew the car before it got painted & he also told me in the past that he could never remember the car having any worrying rust before the paint work, just a badly covered scratch on a quarter panel.
