will these fit after carrying out a 5 stud conversion or will there be a need to modify arches ? The wheels in question are staggered, not sure what "J" they are.

Thanks

You will ideally want spacers to bring them out if you did the 5 stud conversion using E30 M3 parts, should fit ok if using E36 stuff.

Been doing some research, found some 4 - 5 stud adapters, less hassle than the conversion but is it safe?

go to design 3 system, $199.

E36 wheels are a suitable offset to work with spacers / adapters.

7.5 and 8.5 x 17 et41.

However I'm not keen on 4x100 to 5x120 adapters as there will always be one hole which overlaps and I've never seen a solution I would be totally happy with.
cheers,

harry

nope, not seen those before. certainly the best solution i've seen (other than two stage adapters which are going to be 30mm as a minimum) and would be reasonably happy with them on a road car.
cheers,

harry
