MOT Fail :(

If the belt replacement don't fix problem I would change the PS fluid.
I had similar problem but my belt was tight although not new it was in ok shape. The pump also used to make a nasty noise when under load.
I changed the fluid (which ent too difficult) and it was fine for 5 years until it was changed for a z3 rack.

Fluid was done just a matter of weeks ago as an attempt to solve the problem without going near the belt.

And what colour is the fluid now? Often takes multiple changes to get rid of all the old fluid.Rtaylor2208 wrote:Fluid was done just a matter of weeks ago as an attempt to solve the problem without going near the belt.
If you don't but through ECP via Meatballs, then use this site, which is ECP without all the silly pretend sales and discounts: http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/

Brian the colour was a pretty dirty redish brown. But after draining and refilling it twice its now the bright red colour it was when it came out the bottle.

what are you going to do Ban me? Your patronising remarks are not just lost on me........Brianmoooore wrote:If you have something constructive to add to this thread or any thread in any other forum outside of 'pub talk' or the 'kinderkarSimon13 wrote:Nice attitudeBrianmoooore wrote: This procedure is detailed in your E30's driver's handbook (if you bothered to read it) as something you should do every three months
The same applies to Dezzy.
We are losing too many relatively new members on here as a result of this type of 'banter', and there is likely to be a crackdown shortly, when we have finalised details.
"Crack on" wee man. Your about 6 miles wide of the pub talk and kindergarden remarks as they are hardly my hang outs on here. Whats the bloody beef any how because i'm Barrys friend? Is my resto thread not up to your standards? I'm lost.

If you break the rules on here, then yes, we will ban you, in accordance with out disciplinary procedures. This applies to you, Barry and every other member of the zone, including team members.
I've been following your resto thread, and find it fully up to the zone's standards - just the kind of thing we want on here, so I suggest you concentrate on that kind of post, rather than the sort of thing that resulted in you being jailed the last time.
BTW, the likely outcome of your cam saga is that you will be given a new cam if the original is wrongly machined as you say, but the consequential damage will not be covered, as you didn't carry out the necessary checks as this engine was built up. If you're lucky, you may get a contribution to you rebuild costs, paid without prejudice.

I have just seen this.Brianmoooore wrote:If you have something constructive to add to this thread or any thread in any other forum outside of 'pub talk' or the 'kinderkarten', then feel free to post - otherwise, don't.

I thought my post was quite funny (just me again then). It was completely tongue in cheek.
I had no intention of losing the zone any relatively new members.

Don't worry dez, I doubt your wit will have driven anyone away.Dezzy wrote:I had no intention of losing the zone any relatively new members.
This seems to be a line that's being used quite a bit recently by the mods and a handful of zoners.
How accurate it is is anyones guess but you can bet its being blown out of proportion.
Loving the sneaky dig there Baz. Very nice work.bss325i wrote:Don't worry dez, I doubt your wit will have driven anyone away.Dezzy wrote:I had no intention of losing the zone any relatively new members.

A complete "ball ache" to do 'properly', since the rear hubs and bearings have to be removed, often destroying the bearings in the process.macas wrote:I need to replace both my back plates on my 325,cos mine failed on the rear brakes being shite, are these a ball ache to replace?and are they still availiable from bmw?
The usual bodge is to saw through the backplates in the area where there is a cut out for the callipers, twist and slide them on, then weld up the saw cut in situ. I'm in the middle of doing this on another BMW model at the moment.
If it's just the area that the brake shoe retaining pins twist into that is rusted out, then an effective and permanent repair can be made using the domed pin retaining washers from a drum brake set up.

MOT Passed today and no advisories
.
Most of the jobs turned out to be easier than expected. Although I did have to go down the route of glueing the split rear CV boot to get it through the MOT.
It'll be a trip to Boyds next month once I've got the extra cash to have it sorted properly.
On the plus side the new boge dampers, top mounts, bump stops , dust covers and power steering belt seem to be doing there job well, the steering is much more fluid and the damping much less crashy.
I better get saving to do the rears as well as they will most likely be past there best too.
