if u got a welder , grind old bolt shank down to a point and weld it on to broken one then when cool , undo easyer than drilling right out

thanks mate , i gotta get em out somehow and replace the manifold gaskets.jonbuoy wrote:Firstly, take the Manifold off and change all of the stud's so there are no problem's in the future.
Secondly, oxi & ceterlin(sp) if the stud is pertrooding(sp)
or if they are'nt pertrooding then you'll have to drill them out mate.
Good luck

this is a head off job really as the only room to drill out in situ is the one at the top right at the front!
Kack job!

If you can get hold of a right angled drill and use a left handed drill bit, "I'm not takin the p**s Snap-On do them" that way as you drill it the force is undoing the stud not tightening it, if that fails try the weld a bolt head on as the heat transfer also helps to loosen the stud.

Got this problem myself, gonna try the weld method first.
But just a thought, instead of welding a washer etc to the broken stud to remove it, ( is this always 100% effective ) could you weld a smalled threaded stud on and just use that to bolt the manifold on??
How much are studs torqued up?

I had two snapped at the front and two at the back, so I had to sort it out really. I took the car with no manifold on!!!!!! down to the local agricultral engineers who fix all our tractors, the guy got two out with Oxy Acetelene and a nut as they were protruding. The other two he got out by drilling and then using the torch and a stud extractor, the rear one he couldn't drill straight so he drilled it a size bigger (M10?? or was it M8) and put a larger stud in and drilled my manifold to suit. Cost Ԛ£50 in total I think, bargin.

Take the greatest care not to shear any more when you remove the manifold. Split or grind the nuts off if neccessary.jonbuoy wrote:Firstly, take the Manifold off and change all of the stud's so there are no problem's in the future.
