Decided im going to keep this for a while.
Problem is I cant stomach the thought of running aaround in a baby auto and cant be arsed sourcing all the parts needed to do aanother M52 swap so...
Once ive finished the M52 im doing for someone else ill set some time aside and transfer the main running gear over from the Touring to this, basically a striaght swap.
Ill put an M40 manual back in the Touring and then pass that on.
Ill update this when progress begins :D

Interesting to note that it lacks the bead of sealer at the top of the wings of which look to be original.

Thats the same as my sport, no sealer there from new. Not often you see that.

THIS

Doesnt look like it has much wax in place already - as said I'd be absolutely plastering it with the stuff - superb base for a project though

I got myself 5L of the S50 which I'm quite sure will do me for all cavities. I also have 3L dynax-ub which is an under body coating (underseal), Don't think it's enough for the whole underside but hopefully plenty for doing arches and area's that are a bit more likely to be damaged. I have a dinitrol underseal to go on where ever I took of the old bmw stuff.

Update.
Well after having it sat around for ages doing nothing I decided to pull my finger out and get something done.
Original plan was to pull the M52 from my Touring and install into this but I really havent got the time or enthuisiasm to be doing 2 complete swaps so I decided to go M20 with it.
First time ive ever done one of these conversions lol,ive ripped so many out over the years but think ive only ever fitted one other.
Anyway simple plug n play swap with a few upgrades along the way.

M40B18 and auto box pulled out and sold on to another zoner.
Tiny antiroll bar replaced with a standard 2.5 one along with new OEM bushes and droplinks.
Standard E30 PAS rack removed and replaced with an E46 Clubsport one.
M20 was given a good clean down with TFR and fitted new cambelt while it was out.
Original M20 radiator was knackered so ive fitted an M52 aircon one.
Original M20 oil cooler fitted too.
Engine is all in and running but still few things to do under the bonnet before moving onto the rear end....

Fit manual pedal box and bleed clutch
Buy and fit new reverse light switch
Modify and fit PAS pipes and fill system
Bleed coolant system properly
Buy and replace split O/S engine mount
Remove E46 steering tiebars and fit E30 ones

Ive also been collecting a few bits for it such as
Beige Sport leather seats
Beige parcel shelf with blind
Westfalia detachable towbar(might sell this)
318is front lip spoiler
SE sideskirts

Fitted the seats and shelf already but waiting for drivers seats to arrive(seperate purchase).

Ill update with more pics over the next couple of weeks as I make more progress.

Colour combo is cool.
Should be lovely when its all done and bolted together.
Forgot to add ive also fitted a set of opening rear quarter windows with the correct chrome trim and have got a set of front fogs and oil cooler grill to freshen the front end up.
I have got a pair of mint bumpers and mirrors that if I was keeping it id have painted in Atlantis but have pretty much gone off that idea for now.
Got a pair of Lemforder rear beam bushes and Danthe fillers ready to go in the replacement rear beam and got some new ATE front and rear pads(already had these in my shed so may aswell use them on it)too.

Couple more jobs done today.
E30 tiebars fitted to the E46 rack, will get it tracked when its on the road.
Also fitted the manual pedal box ad srarted putting the centre console and glovebox trims back together.
Tomorrow ill get the clutch bled up and start the process of modding some PAS pipes to fit.
Had it running a while today though and sounds lovely.
Currently fitted with a Cat though as it came from a late Touring but ill address that(possibly) later.

Fantastic build this

Interior colour really complements the exterior paint - and sooo feckin clean & Solid in that engine bay 8)

I like the M52 Rad conversion too - much neater than the standard setup with external coolant reservoir

Keep the pics coming

Ill get some more pics up soon.
The original M20 rad was battered and I hadthe M52 one anyway, does look tidier too.
I still need to get a plastic mounting for it too sit in though as the M20 one is too long.
Bled the clutch up today, feels a bit heavy but operates fine.
Changed the dash coding plug for the 6 pot one, idle sits at 800 now instead of 1500 :P
Had it running for ages earlier to bleed the coolant whch was straightforward to do.
Next upis get the PAS pipes done and filled then ill crack on and get the rear drum setup swapped.

Engine swap wise its pretty mch done now.
PAS all plumbed in and filled now, cant wait to see how the ClubSport rack feels.
Need to mount the box with the relays in near the AFM somehow yet and get some a mount for the radiator,oh and throttle is sticking a bit so will lube the cable up and see if that sorts it.
Next up,once the front panel is back on,is get the back end in the air and get the rear beam and diff off ready for discs and medium case 3.91.
Will get some more pics when the front end is back together.

Image

Took it down the road earlier to try out the steering....love it :P
Pull well too by the feel of it although the fuel light is on already, joys of M20`s eh!
Front valance back on,needs a replacement bumper though as its cracked on the corner.
Leather seat collected from tonybtonyb today so should be here tomorow.

Got enough valves in my Red one so no big deal,as for economy as Mick rightly says above thatll be the new owners downfall :chuckle:
To be fair though the M20 looks right at home, keeping it `Old Skool` innit :D
