Would this have anything to do with the cold weather we have been experiencing lately or is there something more sinister going on that I need to look at?
Sticking rev counter
Moderator: martauto
The rev counter has suddenly started to stick. Evertime I start the it either doesn't budge at all or the needle sticks at the 2000 rpm mark. It then eratically shoots arounds the rev counter and only once the car is warm will then calm down and work properly.

Hi There
Mine is stuck at 3000rpm and rarely moves. had it checked out and it is the rev counter unit that is faulty. You need to get hold of either a rev counter or a full set of clocks and swap the rev counter over into your clocks.
Obviously you need to make sure the rev counter you are going to fit is not F****d
Cheers

Ive also heard that sometimes the gauges can do strange and unusual things due to dead service board batteries. There is a small circuit board within your instrument cluster which controls when your service indicator lights come on amongst other things. This board has two AA NiCad batteries soldered to it which when your ignition is switched off, supply power to maintain the memory of your service indictaor lights. I have read that when these batteries eventually fail, the instrument gauges and lights can malfunction. This may be another cause for you to investigate...

Rev counter can definitely be affected by a duff SI board, but a sticking rev counter can be caused by dirt or damage on the gears which drive the needle.
