What release bearing should I be using with the e36 328i gearbox?

The e36, e30 or the e21??

Cheers :)

been having a problem with my m20 conversion. is the m20 bearing too short for 328i gearbox? put a new slave on a m52 one and it pushes the pin out too far and pops it out of the slave, but it still drives and slips abit

Slave needs to match the gearbox, slave should have the mount ears 1/2 way down it not at the front like e30 ones.

When I swapped from m40 box to ZF box I only had the M20 slave and had the same problem as you, the rod just popped out, nearly lost it in the bellhousing

At the time it was like 1am and that was all I had so I extended the rod by welding a bit more length onto it. Few inches IIRC.

Since then I got hold of the slightly larger dia e34 style slave cyl, this has the mount ears 1/2 way back along the length meaning the thing stuck into the bellhousing much further. Side by side the e34 slave put the rod almost exactly where my extended rod had ended up, so that was nice.

This was on M20b20 fly, m20 starter, LUK 325i e30 clutch & release bearing.

Hope this helps
