Hi folks, I'm planning on doing a compression test on my 3.18i witht the M40 engine and I'm wondering if these units have a flood mode? i.e if I have the accelerator right down on turning the key will it suspend fuel being sent to the injectors? It would make the process of testing much quicker as I don't want to send unused fuel down to the catalytic convertor.

Cheers fellas

there's no real need to do anything but remove all 4 plugs before the test, fuel will be minimal

If you use the pins in the diagnostic socket, kindly placed there by BMW for the purpose, to crank the engine over, instead of the key, no fuel will be injected, the fuel pump won't run, and there will be no risk of an HT flashover damaging the ECU as a result of plug leads being left unloaded.

Hi Brian, what pins should I use and is it just a case of bridging the 2 connectors?

Cheers

I'm curious about this, because the other day I stalled and tried to restart immediately but only gave it a half hearted stab at the key before my finger slipped off. No go. I cranked again and nothing after 10s. I left it 10s and cranked with my full fully down on the throttle and she started up after about 5s of cranking. Hasn't missed a beat since.
