Right i want to get a CAT 1 alarm and immobiliser fitted to my car.. Now in order for it to be recognised by the insurance i need to get it fitted by an approved fitted. So i need recommendations of fitters and alarms either in or around Brighton or in or around Essex..

Looking for personal recommendations really, as in they've done your e30 and did a good job as you hear some stories about monkey boys fitting alarms badly

was thinking about getting a Toad alarm again, had one on my GSi before, but am open to suggestions, main thing is to make it difficult to steal obviously, but a few features/toys are always good

Had mine fitted by GAP security as they were recommended by Adrian Flux and HIC.

Seemed like friendly people and the guy they sent out appeared to know his way around the E30, had owned a few before and almost shit himself when I opened the bonnet and showed him what I was up to :)

DONT USE XTREME IN HARLOW, they fitted an alarm to my Fiat Stilo, some functions didnt work, wires were hanging loose and bits of trim were broken.

I fitted it myself then got the local fitters to Test it for me, they wrote me a VSIB certificate all legal and they charged Ԛ£30 for half an hours work.

I cant recommend a fitter in your area mate but if you're unsure about alarms I can put a vote in for a Clifford Concept 650p. It might not be necessary on your car but it was perfect for my cab as it has the dual proximity sensors which sense mass inside the car not air, so you can leave the hood down and a breeze won't set it off. It also chirps at you if you stand right next to it for longer than about for 30 seconds which is useful and in my opinion not obnoxious enough to make someone want to key it for that reason, as has been the case with some cars I've been (too) near.

All the bullshit about them being complex/tempremental etc is not to be believed IMO, I have had two Cliffords and they seem logical and easy to operate if you read the manual and definitely secure the vehicle.

Hope this helps....in some way!

Well done for finding that Simon, just remembered it after I posted. I didn't get it fitted by them thanks to the zone and thank God for that, as the install I have is perfect and probably wouldn't be if I'd let GAP hack at my Motorsport.

Cliffords are way to complex and have too many pointless /irritating gimmicks . When i buy cars ,the presence of a clifford means i allow for the price of binning it and fitting a simple no aggro alarm,( like a toad) in my margin. Most motor trade colleagues share my views.

Got to agree with you there. Clifford could be good if they got rid of the unnesscerary(sp) stuff. Toad are nice and simple.

My M3 has a Cobra...seems to work just fine

Can't, though, recommend any fitters in your neck of the woods...

John Kleis in Reading are pretty top notch, though, from past experiences

What I will say is that its down to installation. Especially with Clifford Products

I've used 3 installers on my previous 3 cars

And tbh Ive had problems with all of them. Ive either had to rework the positioning of things, had attitude when I came to pay or have consistent false alarms at 5am which the dealer are convinced Im making up!

Cliffords own installation course is not difficult to pass. But a real electrician will do a good job of it anyway. And will go above and beyond just "making do"

I left my E30 with the installer and said they could have it for a couple of days. so as not to rush them and hope they did a good job. But when I turned up at 5pm on the second day they were still doing it. So basically they'd wasted Day 1 by not touching it.
