Thanks for comments.

Its probably going to be the most attached to e30 ive ever owned, i'am allready worried someone may twat it when it goes onto the road.

Wrote a lovely letter yesterday to the original owner, all receipts from 1995 till the most recent had the same address so chances are he is still at that address. I included plenty of pictures and gave him my email address and address. i explained what i had done, explained i will be taking it to classic car shows etc. and also asked him for some original pictures of it if he has some. Will be interesting to see if i get anything back. I wait with anticipation :D

Also found out that the car was originally supplied with cloth interior. given its a one owner car, and seeing where the fella lives along with the mind boggling prices on the recipts i'am wondering if he purchased a brand new interior somewhere along the lines, the rears just look too new, if that makes sence, they still have a "texture" finish to them same goes to passengers seat

Epic thread, mate! Very impressed with what you've done and wish I'd been as level-headed when I was your age. Keep up the good work!

Started fitting some car audio, unfortunately the standard set-up isnt good enough for me

The setup is as follows

Nakamichi CD-400 Head unit
Loudest.com 90w RMS 4" components in Rear
Vibe Black Hex 75W RMS Components in Front
Vibe 4 Channel AMP 4x 100W RMS

So Plenty of power.

took about 3-4 hours to do what seems like not a lot but i wanted to do everything properly using heat shrink etc.

started by removing rear panels in the touring, pain in the arse these.

Image

first problem was when i removed the speaker pods, the speakers that were going in wouldnt fit depth wise, so had to be creative and smash a hole in the bottom for the magnet to stick out, i used the original foam inside to cover the hole i had made for the magnet. aswell as that the speakers seemed very slightly wider than stock so had to do some trimming to the hole. but got there eventually.

Image

Image

no block connectors this time

Image

excuse the excessive trimming

Image

Image

Image

this is where the amp is

Image

The only e30 ive owned where there isnt a tiny bit of rust where the fuel filler goes.

Image

Back together

Image

after plenty of swearing i managed to get it back together along with all the wiring from front speakers to back of the car, earth, power lead, rca and remote cables.

today i fitted front comps and connected the amp up in cubby compartment, also fitted my nakamichi head unit. only thing i need to do now is modifiy the tweeters for the aftermarket ones and connect them up. although this is the only pic i have

Image

at last i have a glovebox and all trim in on the passenger side. to be honest this was a fooking pig to do as there was slight damage to the footwell so i had to remove foam from the carpet and trim the speaker panel down ever so slightly but you would be non the wiser now.

Image

while the battery was on charge i used a wire wheel to remove any loose crap from the battery tray and soaked it in loads of krust for 3 hours then gave it a coat of zinc primer, not a permanent fix but should slow it down for now.

Ready for a coat or three of mauritus blue

Its getting taxed and insured on Monday, cant wait :D

Getting Insured and Taxed tomorrow cant wait.

Finished the car audio off today, the only thing i need to do is fit tweeters but the wires are all connected. Also fitted Snow tyres, mainly because the bbs need 4 new tyres. Kinda like the pov spec look :o:

Got all the interior back together and tweeked about with the headlights to raise the aim a little. fitted the mats out the e36 as i dont want the e30 ones getting ruined.

Everyone must of thought i was mad working in the snow but surprisingly it was warm with the sun out, had to take some layers off

So here it is finished for now, kickdown works correctly now and will rev to the red line before changing up, private road obviously :)

If you are bored of a 318i auto you would get bored of an M20 that revs to 4k!

Convert your car to manual then save up for an M52. The M52 will bolt up to the M40 manual conversion to by converting it to manual now will not only make more enjoyable now, it will also be a step in the right direction toward an M52 conversion.

Autos really suit engines with plenty of low down torque like turbo diesels, 6 pots petrols and bigger.

Not revy 4 pots although M40's are quite torquey for what they are.
