You may be cutting your bonnet if it's going top mounted.

That is a canny manifold, but wrong for my turbo,
the turbo i'v got is a "twin scroll"
so the manifold I/we make will have to be split into 2, say, bank 1,2 and 3 to one side of the "split" T4 flange and 4,5 and 6 to the other side,
and then 2 branch off pipes for the wastegate/s :D

so yeah if i bought that it would just basically get hacked to bits....besides check my sig below

cheers for the heads up tho dude

No way no how, the turbo will be sitting more or less behind the lights (ish),
There'll be NO cutting of my carbon mr :chuckle:

I'll start a new thread when iv got all the bits and start making the manifold,

Which wont be long now :D

There is NO need to cut the bonnet with that thing.

Alot bigger has been fitted to E30´s without bonnet cutting.
With great challenges comes great engineering.

It´s not split pulse which is the prime purpose of the turbo he bought.

Re Vanos vs non vanos lumps, I've had a look into controlling vanos via a standalone such as megasquirt.

Single vanos is pretty much a simple on/off switch, the system is active from just above idle to approx 5000rpm and basically just needs +12V to turn it on. MS can control single vanos quite easily so I imagine VEMS will as well.

As to whether vanos would be a help or a hindrance on a high power turbo motor, I'll wait for someone with more experience to confirm!

Im not to sure on the vanos side of things,
I think gunni was working on something with the vems, so it could either be controlled or switched off..?? not sure which tho

I played it safe and went for the non vanos, which actually,

turned up this afternoon :D

Thats been well looked after!

You fitting a thicker headgasket? I'd defos be getting the head pressure tested and skimmed aswell.

New oil pump inners would be a good idea aswell. That snail will like it's giness to be on tap. :D

The arp head bolts and the MLS headgasket have just cleared US customs

Dont think the head needs checked, it was running fine when/before it was removed,
and it looks ok to me
It'll not be getting a skim either, it'll mess up the compression

I might treat it to a new oil pump and some new gaskets tho

Vanos is your friend. The simple M50 vanos any ecu can run, the variable S50 vanos a VEMS can run as well as most (not all) more expensive ones. None that are cheaper then a vems .

leeparkes wrote:328i/S50 box, there a direct 5th though so you will need a long diff, ie if your going for 500hp it will need to be around 2.93 (or lower)

This blokes got some tasty ratio diffs.

Back to the diff situation....

I'v decided Im going to be using the E36 (328is) box,

can anyone work out what ratios will give me what,

I want a diff that is going to give good acceleration and that doesn't run out of puff or be on the limit at around the 150-160 mark

Iirc a 3.25 is the equivilent of a 4.0 with an overdrive box and a 2.93 is close to a 3.64.

So yes id go lower than 2.93 with that much power. :)

Nice purchase btw.

Nice1

I think it'll have to be much lower than the 2:93

the 2:93 coupled with the 328i box will only give a top end of 158,

and the 2:65 will give a top end of 175

Thats going off the info given in this link...

http://www.endtuning.com/gearratios.html
tyre size 225-40-17
(link stolen from jimbob ;)

dont know how accurate this thing is,

but i thought i would of seen more top end than 175 with the 2:65 diff fitted

:?

The S50B32 6 speed box will bolt straight on. It won't like the power you want to put through it though. :(

I can't remember the specifics, unfortunately, but plenty get dropped for the ZF box in track cars or ones which are going to be abused.

I'v been asking around about gearboxes,
and it does seem like the M3 box is more prone to, jumping out of gear, not going into gear, and just basically failing,
if I had got a box from the M3 and 100 miles down the road it goes "pop" I wouldn't be to happy, not only are they 5 times the price of the 328i box, there about 5 times the weight

so I'v opted to go for the 328i box

Image
think it needs the seal changed

iv got the 328i manual prop and im getting a hold of the 2:65 slipper
(bit of a noob question..... what gear linkages should be used with that box? )

Think I used standard linkages..

I have a nice double shear shifter linkage from AKG if you are interested.. :) Replaces the single shear bottom arm.

not much to look at but quite important at the same time :)
