e36 keeps cutting out..

Hi Guys,
I'm currently using a mates e36 328i, which has developed a problem
When slowing down or stopping, it keeps cutting out? It's been serviced, and is running nice apart from this problem. In fact since it was serviced, it's been better, but still not great. I've had a look on the e36 forums and ICV could be the problem? When I serviced the car, two of the ht leads (coil packs on top) where slightly damaged at the ends, not sure if they would affect the car at all tho?

Hello,
i had the same problem on my 328i, i first changed the airflow meter and the car drove better for the first week (during the period that the ecu is learning the settings) then the problem came back. i then changed the idle control valve but the problem was still there.

the most common problem with the E36 328i was that the oil brether (attached to the underside of the inlet manifold) would split and let air in when releasing the trottle causing the car to stall.
you can check for airleaks by spraying carb cleaner under the inlet manifold while the engine is running and see if the revs pick up, if the revs pick up u definately have an air leak. its advisable to check the airpipes under the inlet manifold for cracks/splits before changing the oil breather.

I changed the oil breather (approx £70 from the dealers) and the problem has been cured, the car has been problem free for the last 5months

oh yeah, i fitted the old AFM back and sold the new AFM

my e30 was doing this but i had a split in my hose from inlet to AFM. changed that and its sorted it now.

I had the CCV fault on my cousins car, same as dirtybry has mentioned above, causes the symptoms you have mentioned.
