m50 maf 'whoops wrong section '

righ when i bought my m50 i got given 2 mafs a plastic and a metal one ive seen plenty of pics of ones with plastic mafs but it doesnt fit in the plug and when i plug the metal one in idle sounds lil lumpy but revs fine and odo doesnt hunt up and down jus stays as a normal idle would on the clocks ???/ confuzzled a lil

editing this just realised in wrong section dont no how or if i can move it

this is the maf ive been using

is this a non vanos m50 air flow meter ? it has 6 pins by the way
the plastic one i was also give has 4 pins but doesnt fit in plug ?

Looks the same as my non-vanos MAF. Not sure on the numbers off the top of my head. Are the lambdas OK as far as you know? Might be worth taking it for a decent drive and seeing it it calms down.

Thats defo a non-vanos MAF, they always have 6 pins, if the other MAF has 4 pins it will be for a vanos engine

ahh that maybe what my confusion was all about went down local breakers but hasnt got anything so ill be putting a wanted add up soon as my paypal is sorted , and blue30 i havent any lambdas fitted i cut them out when i modified the manis , my friends used to run sweet without them ,

Your engine is running crap without a lambda, and will eventually die.

No it's in limp mode. It will end up being scrap if left as it is.

One of my mates has a m50 in his merc c180, no lambda and it's on 220k + miles and still going strong....

Why not just run it with lambdas?! What are you trying to gain?

meh itll be fine its not staying n/a for long anyways so diffrent mani and emerald will be used but the real reason is that i couldnt be botherd to buy neww lambdas and as vw-will said our pals in his merc runds fine without em and same with mine ill let you no if id does let go but dnt see it happening

ok so ive been listening to what you guys have been saying in sense of lambda sensor now from my research e36 325 1993 has 1 lambda just before the cat , also they share the same part number throught the engine sizes on the e36 so i may just fit 1on the single pipe just after y piece in my system using one of these

what i could do is just drill the hole and weld this on question is what is the correct thread size on them ?

Most are M18 but im sure some early lambdas are a larger thread, so best to get your lambda first and measure the thread before ordering the boss

Or you could just buy a M18 nut from your local fasteners supplier at about 50p.
