Maplin sell them, so I'm told. They must be the solder tab type and the same type of battery.
Kind regards
John

CPC-Farnell, part # BT04235 at £1-79 each will do the job perfectly.
These are tag ended AAA NiMH cells that are physically smaller than the originals (but with a higher capacity), which will allow you some extra room to fit them in. The tags aren't the same as the originals, so note which end is +, and solder on some short lengths of wire to the tags to fit them in.
Beware of carriage charges on orders under £45!
They used to list a 2/3 length AA cell that was ideal, but that appears to be no longer listed.

Original battery is only 500mA/hr, so the 800mA/hr AAA one I've suggested is more than adequate.
The problem with using AA length batteries (50mm length) is that the tags are different from the original batteries, and the wire links you will have to solder on to fit them are in danger of shorting to adjacent components. Using a shorter battery solves this problem completely.
The battery only has to maintain the SI indicator memory at any time that the main car battery is disconnected, so even the original 500mA/hr cells are probably overkill.

got the batteries that brian recommended fron cpc, soldered them in yesterday. fitted the cluster today, started the car an let run for a while. re-set the inspection lights with a cheap ebay item and hey presto, full green lights and a working rev counter and water temp gauge.
