Might have to get some blitz, need to find a shitty set of bottletops or steelies.
sorted a valance out with 320touring (neil??) once thats on with the new back door the jigsaw is complete.
Spoke to a mate of my cousin and got a respray quote i cannot refuse.
£500 for a full respray
ive had 3 quotes one £2000 one £1600 and one £800 this is the winner, the guy uses his mates bodyshop and does it as a bit of a hobby in his spare time. he use to do it full time but has a better job now
Apparantly his work is excellent too
Result, Expect to send the car off for paint very soon. starting to get very excited he is coming to inspect in this week

The car is now officially mine, its also has not been registerd as a Cat C and ive got the log book without it needing a vic check RESULT
Car was written off last december, HPI/car check still shows as clear and not as a cat C write off

Had to sell the original IS lip as i was tight for money but now i got a brand new one ready to go one

nice new exhaust trim and some new grill clips

ive also got a heckblende on the way, need to think of a way to fill the lock cutout but might not be noticable when fitted.

Car is off for paint on the 11th Novemeber should get it back the following Monday/Tuesday

i dont know but the dvla have had nearly a year to put it on and its still clear so.....
I still cant belive its clear, i might do another check but dvla say it doesnt need a VIC test and Hpi says clear.

Nearly ready for MOT, going to tax it soon now i have log book, ive managed to fix my broken indicators, the wing indicator pins in the socket had come out and were touching shorting the circuit out.
I also fitted the new tie rod end, what a B@stard that was too do, the thing kept spinning when tightening and undoing the nut
for MOT i need to fit my washers, Fit an indicator bulb and fit new brake light switch and i'am confident it should pass
managed to get the front end all together today, going to order some new black trim that goes round the bumper i think, and will get some dealer plates made up.
i also tried knocking the dent out the back door, the larger one popped out but the bottom was too creased / dented so need to swop all the internals into a new door which i have, bit of a pain in the arse, why do people remove absolutly everything when you buy a door
I'am hoping to get it mot'd before paint that way i dont need to fanny on getting it transported to the paint shop
still along way once the outside is done i can get stuck in with the interior

goodbye crap door

1 indicator bulb needed, removed all the fogs etc to make it easier to paint

Getting there
Don't envy you with the door, i have taking things out of them, would want to avoid putting stuff back in at all costs.

I've got to swap the drivers door on my Touring - been putting it off for months because of all the internals needing to be swapped over

Take door off leaving body supports bolted in place - open door, unclip barsteward stop clips and remove pin - open wider (but not to wide), undo nuts on hinge pins and lift off (tricky with wing on but can be done)
Lay it on its back on suitable supports
Remove trim/gubbins as required
Fit new gubbins/trim as required - you will not find a simpler way to replace lock barrels
Re hang new door - do up nuts, clips etc
Then spend ages shimming and lining up -
I'm liking the work here Alex, good luck with the MOT

All finished and working as it should, all little odds and sods done.
Swopped all the internals into the new door took a good hour and a half
old door, looks perfect in the picture but the lower half is crippled to death

new one, wrong colour like the rest of the panels, however to save cost ive said to the painter it wont need painting both sides like the rest of the panels, he was happy with that.

plenty of waxoil

after pumping the tires up with a crappy £3.99 footpump i pulled the car out and fitted the back door. all panels arnt lined up 100% but bodyshop will do all that for me. they all close as they should and arnt too bad.

wanted to take some before pictures of the crappy areas.

Just a case of driving it down to the mot garage now, day off on friday so fingers crossed. its only done 2000 miles since last mot and no advisorys were given.
Getting a little excited now, cant wait to be driving a proper bmw again, the compact is shite.

the painter doesnt make much money from it, he said its more of a hobby now. he had a partnership with a guy with there own bodyshop but ended up leaving for a better job at cummins, however he still takes on work and uses his weekends to do it, his work is excellent so i'am told. he is painting everything from windows down and going to buffer the roof up with g3 etc. he is also going to take a dent out of drivers wing and try and make the rear valance as straight as poss.
its costing him £100 to use the bodyshop, originally was £50 however his mate has that much work on he was a little reluctant. then i'am guessing £200-£300 for paint and the other £200-£300 is his for a weekends work. he knew a fair bit about e30s when he seen it, he was telling me to fit a tech II kit
total price is £550
Come to the meet on the 20th and see what you think.

Well It Passed Woooooo
mot tester said he has never seen an old car like this as clean underneith
drove sooo much nicer than my compact in everyway, the compact is dreadfull compared toi this.
autobox is a bit lazy, it kept changing gear too early and doenst kick down at 60/55mph. engine is soo quiet. once the car changes gear and goes its deffintly quicker than the compact
anyway its home on the drive, just need some tax now
the new mot certificates are abit piss poor
