No easy way about it, you either support the engine and remove the crossmember or remove the engine.

You could turn the car on its side, undo everything, wedge an exhaust pipe in for leverage and shout, swear and wrap your knuckles....

That is what I did when I got mine from the scrapyard :D
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

I'd recommend lifting the engine rather than dropping the subframe as the subframe bolts have been known to shear off when moved for the first time in 20+ years.

Drift1, when are you attempting this? I'm only a few clicks from you & don't mind getting my hands filthy on the way back from grandmas tea and scones on the weekend.

Based near chester.. My gran is on the wirral - so q.ferry is a half way house for me.

If you can't get a replacement sump, and yours isn't totally smashed, there will be an alloy welder local to you - plus it'll be stronger for next time

It will be cheaper to buy a new one than alloy welding, unless you can get REAL mates rates. When I broke mine, I was quoted a minimum of £50/inch from all the alloy welders near me, some were more.

£50 for an inch of weld is daylight robbery, I really find it hard to believe anybody would pay that. £50 per hour would be more realistic

I didn't pay it, I am not stupid! but that was the cheapest quote I could get for ali welding where I live, and that was if I removed the sump and delivered it to them, degreased. I was not amused.
