Hello.

Recently I swapped my stock steerring wheel (380mm) with an nice old-skool momo (350mm). All tho only 30mm smallrt, this wheel feels much better. the slow steering rack isin't an issue any more. And my legs finally fit under the steering wheel (they used to rub which was really annoying in the corners). Essentially it's great and I dont want to go back to stock...

THe problem... now I cant see the top halves of the speedo and rpm gauges, which is pretty bad as past 60 mph i dont know how much I'm doing, likewise over 2k rpm, i runno what the rpm's are until they get to about 6 :(

My car does not have adjustable steering column :(

Is there any way to manually adjust steering column upwards ??? Like undoo it from the mounts and fabricate some spacers or custom brackets ? even slight adjustment would be halpfull, and if I could move it 1" higher then it would be just perfect.... anybody did something like this before ?

Thanks in advance,

thanks for the input, but it's more a case of trying to see under the top of the wheel, and dont say take the seat out.
cheers

I have the same problem but it happened with the standard wheel too and I have a fixed race seat mounted about as low as I can get it (lower than the standard seat) so going any lower isn't an option. I think I can't see from about 60km/h to 140km/h and about 2500rpm to 5500rpm or something.

I have just been tilting my head down and looking under the wheel to see the speed, it means I can't keep a completely constant speed because I can't see it all the time but it isn't too bad.

The steering column is held in place at the dashboard by four shear head bolts, the heads of which are normally sheared off at the factory as part of the anti theft arrangements. Usual way I remove them is by welding something on to the conical head. They can then be replaced by ordinary hex bolts.
Two bolts hold the column up to the dash cross rail, and the other two are part of an arrangement that help stop the column being forced backwards in a crash.
I've lowered a couple of columns by inserting spacers under the dash rail. bending the bulkhead slightly and using longer bolts. I've never wanted to raise one. From sitting here, I dont think there is much scope for doing so.

You mean there's no space to raise it ? unless cutting dash and stuff ?

unfortunatly one cannot set or adjust the steering wheel :( , its a matter of the driver, setting up the chair and/or seating postion for max view and comfort. I remember when i first got into my car, i spent a good 1hr trying out different seating arangements before i was happy

I go racing so I have mine set up for the optimum position I could get for driving, unfortunately the view to the instruments and comfort had to be secondary considerations (although comfort is still not too bad) and because my seat is fixed I can't change it for the road, although I am not sure I could anyway. I would either have to get the seat lower, which I am not sure is possible, or tilt the back rest bit maybe but then I would be too far from the wheel.

I would actually like to bring the wheel closer to me as well (I can't move any closer to it or my helmet hits the roof and my seat hits the transmission tunnel and door) but that would probably make the vision problem worse.

to bring the settring wheel closer, you can get one of those momo extension blocks, or however they are called. they baiscally bolt in between steering wheel and momo hub.

I've got a momo boss on mine and still can't see the top dash, I guess it's just a pretty cool querk, my speedo don't work any way.
