I was down at NSEC recently.. F**k me their prices have gone up! Greedy sods.. Used to love going down there.. That M5 looks a bit sorry for itself. I am sure the guy never actually sells any cars, just collects.

£350 and that metro would go pretty quickly but not at £550 even though it does look in good condition.

Prices of Metros are pretty keen from what i've seen as tidy and relatively rot free stuff is damn hard to find.

I've seen an original unmolested 1.3 spazmatic recently change hands for nearly a grand which had 28k on the clock, it was good condition but certainly no concourse queen.

I remember the mileage was low and it was last taxed in 2005. It does look very tidy but theres rust on the tailgate and a damaged rear quarter.

:D

i used to really want one of those when i was about 8, and my mum had a bog basic metro city (with lovely beige interior) when i got a bit older i realised what a crappy engine the a-series was.

my first car was a red metro GTa, but a later j-reg one with the 1.4 8v k-series lump.

the one above looks surprisingly tidy, but the early cars do seem to survive the dreaded rot better than later ones for some odd reason.

a very very sick part of me would love a mk1 in a hideous colour (lime green or daffodil yellow, or shite brown) to try and shoehorn my engine setup into. it's a lot of work though, it'll pretty much bolt striaght into the k-series 1.1c ive still got tucked away... :D
cheers,

harry

My grandmother had a lime green Metro HLE 3 door, it was on an old Y plate i think, she got it new and ran upto about 12 years ago when she sold it for £50.00 after it had been knicked and recovered. Lime green metro, cream furry seat covers, nasty.

crazy fact, the vanden plas had a unique exhaust back box with an extended tail pipe which meant it came out on the offside despite the rear box being on the nearside.

i have absolutely no idea why though :D

Which factory were these built again? Was it Longbridge , because I don't remember seeing them around the Cowley works as a kid.

I can still remember the horrid gearbox/diff whine these things made.

The colour was called 'Applejack'* and was used on Minis, Marinas, 'Legggros as well as the 1980/81 Metro.

I sold a Vanden Plas 500 in 1995 when I worked for a dealership near Maidenhead..........a black one iirc.

Yep, the Brummies built these. To be fair, they were no worse for rust than the Mark 1 Fester.

I learned to drive in a beige 1.3 Metro - my instructor also had a 1.0 Metro - also in beige 8O

I am very thankful that I have not had the misfortune of driving or travelling in one of these horrible spastic turds since passing my test :D

Can't remember the last time I saw one on the roads and I really don't miss them

I learned to drive in a 1985 B plate MG Metro.....when it was a new car. She was Zircon blue and the facelift model.
I had a few Metros back in the day - used to buy and sell these and Mark 3 Scorts. They were okay back then, but as someone mentioned earlier, the later ones were much quicker to rust than the originals.

My mate had a Y reg Metro Turbo when we first had cars.

He stuck it into a neighbour's gate post outside my house one day. Stacked it up with revs, let the clutch out and took off with a one tyre fire, suddenly there was a crunch noise and the car veered abruptly to the right and smacked into a big concrete gate post.
