Deep in the cill, under the driver's footwell speaker, but the problem is most likely with the driver's door pillar plug and socket.
Use the forum search function and look for central locking and red/black wires.

Just had a quick read of that artical.
There should be a black plastic plate blocking off the void beneath the speaker, which looks like was missing from this car.
When you get the ECU out, before you do anything else, check to see if there is 12V + at the red/black wire going to the ECU. Check with a 12V lamp, not a meter. If this supply is not present, then leave the ECU alone, and find the two red/black wires going to the door pillar socket behind the speaker, and do as I have posted several times before.
If the 12V supply is OK, then have a look inside the ECU as detailed in the article. Note that the thermal trip is officially unrepairable, and fires have been caused by using the wrong solder.

Thanks for the warning Brian, I've just noyiced a sort of "buzzy" noise when I turn the key, sounds like it is coming from the relay, maybe just get a new i think.

Check the supply wire (red/black) to the ECU with a 21W 12V lamp.
Slight buzzing is a syptom of what I'm talking about.

There are eight in your rear lamp clusters.

Might be the easiest way to sort your"wiring nightmares"
Haven't got time for that lot today. I'll have to print those pictures off and compare them with a half stripped car I have here.
