Goddammn Ebay timewasters
Moderator: martauto
Just had the winner of my 325i touring leave me an answer phone message explaining that he really really wanted my car, but has not got any money.
Why bid on the car? Why wait 2 weeks with the MOT and Tax running down and me storing it before letting me know? Why up till 2 days ago ring to say he's definitely coming meaning i change my plans this bank holiday weekend to accommodate his collecting it?

There's been a lot of these threads of late
.
Problem is; due to ebay's policy of sellers no longer being able to leave negative feedback, there are no consequences to 'buying' an item and not paying for it.
This seems to leave the way open for idiots to go around blithely bidding without following up. It's a frustrating waste of time and money for the seller. All one can do is open an unpaid item case. Whoop-dee-do!

to be honest thats what you ask for when listing any car on ebay, i woudlnt let any car auction finish, make it clear in the message to email if interested and listed elsewhere, anyone genuinly interested will contact you its as simple as that , and remove it with 12 hrs left to save this sort of thing happening
same way as id never bid on a car on ebay (unless a super bargain under £500 say) , as you win, go look at it, and if its not as described etc you want to walk away
its a wind up with cars on ebay- im currently looking for a land rover defender, every day looking on all fronts i can think off, messaging ,ringing, etc... so many inflated prices, cars get bid on to decent amounts, end, then to be re listed 2 days later saying timne waster blah blah, other sellers look at prices and completed prices to try to price theirs, see these over inflated completed ones...then put theirs up thinking thats what its worth, this coupled with so many 0-low rated sellers and bidders, and bidders with 100% bid history with that seller shill bidding...just leads to a totaly all over the place minefield market, its doing my head in

The way you are looking is totally wrong - ALWAYS look at the seller first - and the QUALITY of his feedback -just ignore any adverts where the seller isn't goldplatedpolsta wrote:to be honest thats what you ask for when listing any car on ebay, i woudlnt let any car auction finish, make it clear in the message to email if interested and listed elsewhere, anyone genuinly interested will contact you its as simple as that , and remove it with 12 hrs left to save this sort of thing happening

As I get older I realize that you can't please everyone - pissing everybody off is however a piece of cake
What an absolute asshole, feel sorry for you. Did he have any plans to get money or, did he just express his want for the vehicle then hang up.
Start of this year i was bidding on an emaculate 5...28i touring. It was a 5 series touring anyway and it was immaculate. I was winning the bid at 500 pounds, then at the 2nd last second someone outbid me by 10 pounds. Enraged i didnt go on ebay for a couple of months, but when i did go back on i found an email from the seller offering to sell me the car as the winner hadnt actually replied and didnt answer his phone. I was pissed off i coulda had the car but also that ebay these days seems to be over run with time wasters, its not fair on people atal

Ebay seems like a nightmare for buying cars.
The guy I bought my touring off had "sold" it 3 times on ebay to non-paying nobheads before I went to view it with cash in my pocket.
I don't really look for cars on ebay anymore as it just seems to be a dumping ground for overpriced scrap.
Autotrader is still the best all rounder for finding decent motors IMO.

When selling things like cars on ebay you can make it so people with little or no feedback cant place a bid, i always do this when selling big items like cars helps aviod being messed around

1991 BMW E30 318i Neon Design Convertible (Sold)
1990 BMW E30 325i Touring (Sold)
1990 BMW E30 318IS (Sold)
1990 BMW E30 316i (RIP)
ebay has always been ok for my mates! i advertised my mates mg zr for £4500. 1 bid was placed and he won it for that amount. guy turned up with the cash, didnt want a test drive or anything and just drove off!!! he didnt even mail any questions just that hed be picking it up a week later! how the hell anyone can buy a car like that is unbelievable. same thing happened again when a lad at work sold his e36 328 cabrio for the same amount (£4500). the bloke won it, caught the train from london with his lad, got in the car and drove away no questions asked! took about 5 mins to complete the sale for BOTH cars CASH. crazy
if it was me i know id get a right knob head with NO CASH lol
if it was me i know id get a right knob head with NO CASH lol
i have to deal with potless flea bay losers when ever i list items i ask for 5 min feedback bids but i still get joe fuc-kwitt with no feedback and just joined buying an item then asking for postage to fu-ckwitsville in abdabustan .
and i have to relist again!
and i have to relist again!

m52 b30 stroker 6-speed 318is Galvanizer
m42 touring
+ a yard full of scrap turds
I'm dealing with this joe fu-ckwitt guy at the moment. A lot of his feedback says "fast payer", not in my case.
He bid on and won an E30 interior and I haven't heard anything from him since close of auction, 5 days ago.
I feel like posting him some of my interior.

Anything for decent money that is being collected like a car, I ALWAYS demand a £100 deposit by paypal within 24hrs, and if I don't get it I ALWAYS offer it to the next bidder in the list.
1990 325i se "weinrot"-How did they know?
I sold 2 vehicles in Ebay auctions one for £8,100
And one for £3,600, and never had any trouble at all.
Both vehicles paid for and collected within days!!
So its not all bad folk, I'm aware some are, but not all!!!
Its bozo's that, like polsta end cars before the end, cos they can't be bothered to list the vehicle correctly with a fixed reserve, to protect its value, who ruin the whole buying process for genuine buyers!!
I got top money for both my vehicles cos I listed them properly, answered questions and allowed viewings, and followed Ebay regs properly!!
The money I got, couldn't have been achieved anywhere else!!

That wasnt from inverness by any chance was it? Cos it sounds awful like the guy/car im talking about.

do you know you can set minimum requirements for people bidding? Like they need more than 5 feedbacks and need a credit card on file? This filters out a lot of idiots
ive never sold a car on ebay, and with ebays listing fees, then the reserve fee, then the final value feel then any paypal fees...makes it all too many fees, maybe if ebay made fees a bit more reasonable at times, and also made it so sellers can post buyers/non payers etc negative feedback, and generaly make ebay such hard work these days, it would be different1970John wrote:

Nope. Was a genuine guy from Macclesfield in the North West - the car was listed in the FS section on here which is how I found it.verde wrote:The guy I bought my touring off had "sold" it 3 times on ebay to non-paying nobheads before I went to view it with cash in my pocket.

this ^^ is what exsactly happend with my e30, guy sore it on ebay contacted me the old fashion way buy phone sore it that night and we agreed on a price, deposite paid and picked it up a day later, was a lovely transaction!! so simple to pick up the phone and come view first save alot of hasel!!polsta wrote:to be honest thats what you ask for when listing any car on ebay, i woudlnt let any car auction finish, make it clear in the message to email if interested and listed elsewhere, anyone genuinly interested will contact you its as simple as that , and remove it with 12 hrs left to save this sort of thing happening
all you have to do is put in the ad is that you will settle for a decent offer and put your phone number in the listing and your phone should ring off the hook with dreamers and people with serious offers!!

Thats the classified Ad option, the best one. No bidding, no dickheads ending the auction for you, no feedback. All you need to do is decide what you reasonably want for your item and go from there. All this auction nonsence is for dreamners who think their item is an unknown Van Gogh waiting to be discovered.mk1nuts wrote:this ^^ is what exsactly happend with my e30, guy sore it on ebay contacted me the old fashion way buy phone sore it that night and we agreed on a price, deposite paid and picked it up a day later, was a lovely transaction!! so simple to pick up the phone and come view first save alot of hasel!!polsta wrote:to be honest thats what you ask for when listing any car on ebay, i woudlnt let any car auction finish, make it clear in the message to email if interested and listed elsewhere, anyone genuinly interested will contact you its as simple as that , and remove it with 12 hrs left to save this sort of thing happening

tell ya what.....im looking for a defender at the moment, last couple of weeks flat out looking looking asking, phoning, etc ,its a f**king nightmare with them on ebay.. they do hold value but absoloute turds mixed in with good ones, and so many dreamer sellers its unreal, thinking their haggered 1988 one is worth 2k more than it is
trouble is...so many get bid up to silly amounts, re listed saying time wasters blah blah, with a lot of inflated priced ones un sold...so along comes mr average with his, looks at these inflated and big up too high re listed ones etc,..and gets an over inflated value of his,not many want to end early/agree a price or put a price to you, thinking its worth 1k more than it is, etc, its an absoluite jungle and doing my head in

@ Polsta - You willing to travel as far as Leicester for a defender? If so, let me know and i'll pm you some details of one someone I know that is selling one, not sure on price or info on it, but I know he is getting rid of it. Single cab one on a E plate is all I can say at the moment.
is it a pick up style with no back you mean ?
im willing to travel for the right one... but obviously id have to be certain if travelling a distance of over "local pop to have a look" sort of way
my ideal...is a country spec 200tdi in green with the side windows rather than van panel and rear seats , roof lining, and nice enough to be inside, rather than an abused work horse type thats crap to be inside
im not in any rush, just looking about and learning the market and differences etc
but non tdi ones are about a grand less or more, although non tdi are not as good on the road and motorway etc, but its weighing up the £££ say 2k range, or 3-3.5k for a tdi
this one they want 1900 for, if only it was a tdi
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... TQ:GB:1123
and this one ends tomorrow not too far away, but for the money might be good..

Well I just had a word with him and he said he has taken a desposit on it now anyway... It was the pick up style one.
I would love a defender but I really dont enjoy driving manuals and havent got the money to buy a newer auto one as they cost stupid money.
I like the second one you linked though, very cool.
