drove the car into work this morning and no sticking brakes, WTF!

Going to take a look though as it's stupid to assume it will behave on a 150 mile journey to the pod without ruining mine and others weekends.

Indeed, and this is before I contemplate messing about fitting the wilwoods which have been gathering dust in my gargae for 18 months

the wilwoods need some new seals, plus I don't yet have the 280mm discs, the spacer or the earls lines needed.

I don't think it is a sticky caliper is both fronts were red hot and it is unlikely 2 front calipers would both get stuck simultaneously, well that's my view anyway

same m/c.

All I did to alleviate the rears cooking themselves was chop about 5mm from the end of the servo push rod (i have no spacer either). it has been fine for probaby 2000 miles until last night.

The front brakes should always come on first as the piston moves forward in the MC
Maybe something is sticking in the servo/brake bar linkage or MC

Drove home tonight and after a few miles they started sticking on. So i pulled the bonnet up when i got in and loosened the master cylinder by giving the nuts a couple of turns, started to hear the vacum leak a little.

Went out and did a couple of miles and they didn't stick on any more.

May have to pull the lot off and have a closer look as the method used so far is a bit of a bodge, even by my standards

Drove it again just now, brakes still stuck on after about 2 miles, even with the master cylinder loosened off.

So sick of this turd, I really am.

Stick with it Lee. Far too much time invested to give up now. U'll get it sorted. If it's doin ur head in go and play on the xbox for a bit and go back to it.

on mine i am using the Renault master cylinder that goes with the Renault servo that i'm using . i had to change one of the pipes as the Renault one uses a larger union on one pipe . but the brakes now work much better than they did with e30 master and clio servo

Master cylinder on the way, pulled the old one off tonight, replacement should be here thursday so I'll hopefully get on that thurs night and be able to do a little road test to see if it cures the problem.

If it doesn't sort it then the turd will be staying at home and i'll be riding shotgun with Dez

I would also adjust the cross linkage to give more pedal free travel - I'd almost put money on that curing the problem.

Swapped in the replacement master cylinder tonight, but discovered I did have a spacer in my old master cylinder after all but it was stuck, so I had to knock up another spacer and thought I would take some pics to help others.

Please note that the length of spacer tends to vary slightly on each car.

I made this one out of one of the clips that fastens the gear level cradle to the top of the gearbox, hacked the clevis part off, lovely snug fit into the master cylinder

Showing it in place, I drilled out a little countersink in the end of it for the servo push rod to face into nicely


I test fitted it upto the servo and could feel it push/resist a bit just before the m/c fitted flush upto the servo, so I drilled a bigger recess out the end and it fitted up with no final resistance


So the master cylinder is all bolted up and plumbed back in, but I can't find my damn eazibleed thing, so work has stopped

Been around and checked all the bleed nipples and they all loosen off. So i'll buy an eazibleed at lunchtime tomorrow and will have to bleed the cooont tomorrow night after work.

Wow, this is page 100 of my 24v adventure, this will be the 3rd pod outing for the M52 engine, once in the touring and 2nd visit in the chromie (providing the brakes are sorted).

Even if the brakes are fubar, at least I'll be going there in 24v power

OK my car isn't coming to the pod.

Wound all 4 caliper back and it filled the reservoir to the brim, but I'm not getting brakes until the pedal has travelled about 4 inches. It's getting dark and I'm not going to ponce about in the morning hoping for the best and then ruin other people's day with hard shoulder dramas.

I don't know if it's air in the system or the spacer in the master cylinder or god knows what else.
