Hi all,
6yrs later I finally decide to start one of these!!
I suppose I should go back in time and bore those who are lifeless enough to trawl through yet another one of these and give you all some info...

Many years ago back in 1991, someone decided they'd like a Sport. They ticked the special options box and ordered Granitsilber-Metallic, the rarest of them all. A lovely colour IMO, but then their pen must of run out as the only other box that was ticked was black leather interior- no OBC, no blinds, no A/C, no C/C...
The important bit;

Image

Jump forward to six years ago.
I was on the lookout for a metalic grey Sport with black leather- I found one.
Over the past few years I've done a few bits'n'bobs and this is what it looked like back then (most of you have seen these, but we're telling a story here)

Image
Image

Unfortunetly a car doesn't stay in this condition, 4yrs of fun and the past 2yrs of being off the road have taken their toll. This is what my driveway ornament now looks like;

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

As you can see, it's wearing plenty of battle scars, badly crazed paint, stone chips, etc.
Not looking too hot. Anyway it's time the Sport hit the streets again so first on the list is to have a check to see what the general condition is before an MOT...

So then, this won't be a straightforward polish and MOT.
This is only a surface delve- I wonder what will lurk behind the infamous Tech II...
The wheels should be easy to polish back up though so that's a bonus!! This is what they used to look like;

Image
Image
Image

Oh well at least the interior is ok...
Oh 2yrs have taken it's toll there also;

Image
Image

My fave bit is the duct tape repair after a 'friend' got in with a CD case sticking out of his rear pocket- of course a denial was put forth!! Looks as though I'll have some nice garden furniture to sit on as I may well put in this interior I've had gathering dust in my office for a year;

Image
Image

Should look nice, but I have more important things to worry about first, like an MOT to find out more followed by some TLC!!
How about this then;

Image
Image

So then lets see the list: MOT, structural welding, cosmetic welding, paint resto, interior swap, dash swap, wheel refurb.

Oh did I forget to mention average 18mpg so something needs addressing there also!!

Right I'm off for a cuppa. MOT prep work next....

By the way with a dash board swap you will undoubtebly reveal the bulkhead grot that most probably lurks in 99% of E30's

Used to be, but neglect and climate has taken it's toll :(

I'm not even that good with spanners and body work skills are non-existent, so I have an uphill battle on my hands to bring this one back 8O

The rot is a surprise though as it was solid!! :eek:

Suchy if its any consolation I am the same with zero experience before E30 ownership....

I would be most worried about that boot seal area....

Good luck mate, keep us all posted :thumb:

I'm thinking steep learning curve and do what I can. Luckily I know some very skilled people whom I trust to carry out any work I cannot manage (welding, paint, etc) but the nuts and bolts stuff I will have to do myself as bottomless pockets I do not possess!! :D

Rip all the carpest out the boot and check there too, also pop the rear door cards off to check the inners.

Most E30's nowadays are rotting before there owners eyes 8O

Must be saved though, Granite FTW 8)

Love the way this sits,

My thoughts exactly when I saw that picture. Looks worse than the one I scrapped a while ago.

Still, if money is no object, good luck.

Oh dear. I thought this was holed up in the garage awaiting recommission. I didnt realise it was sat on the drive! :(

Makes £50 a month for a dry lock up seem worthwhile.

Good job though in choosing to put it right. The fill the f*cker with waxoil! :wink:

Remove the body kit, the complete boot trim, the complete interior for a proper diagnosis.

You need to do this!

Also, put the sunroof in the tilt position and look into the roof when the sunroof panel slides back into. Check here for rot.

Cars that stand around for long periods can go here.

Mission ahead!

I too am watching my car dissolve (whilst still using it) rear inner & outer arches in a state (not taken the inside panels off yet) but after doing a substantial burnout at the drag strip there was smoke coming in the cabin :) I seem to be missing the lower part of my driver front wing too :D

After checking the areas Barry has mentioned, assuming the shell isn't landfill,I would be buying a new rear panel and battery tray

@ leeparkes

Standard Sport susp. so no additional drop. The perspective of the shot gives a nose-down impression but actually sits level. Some 35mm Eibachs were on the list but have slipped down my priority list for the time being- seems I have more important things to spend on!! :eek:

The interior will be coming out anyway so I can check everywhere, may do the dash swap at the same time (can check bulkhead also as someone mentioned earlier) Boot trim obviously and boot lining.

The boot area doesn't scare me as there are loads of people scrapping these things for profit just because of a couple of rust scabs, so chances of finding a decent one are fairly high I'd imagine. My biggest fear is seeing the sunroof bubbles and what lurks behind and beneath- the rest (so far) is do-able :D
